During November’s BlackBerry Developer Conference, there were tons of announcements and applications unveiled. One of the most talked about at the event was for an application that wasn’t even out. We got a glimpse of Kik, a new music service for BlackBerry smartphones, during the BlackBerry developer challenge. As you can see in the video above, when UnSynced founder Ted Livingston stepped out onstage everyone assumed he was going to demo an updated version of the UnSynced BlackBerry music player.
Au contraire! Ted sent a message back when the BlackBerry Music Player Smackdown was published, indicating there was much more in store for ‘Berry users wanting music on their smartphone. Based on the video above, Ted wasn’t joking around
.
It looks like we’ll see a Beta version of Kik Music launching in Canada (home of the BlackBerry maker RIM) sometime during the first quarter of 2010. In addition to the music player features, Ted has let a few more cats out of the bag — including a desktop counterpart to Kik a la iTunes and a planned Kik Chat feature, where users can “share conversation, music and other content.” Share music and other content? Hmmmm. Interesting.
We’re definitely going to be keeping our eyes peeled for Kik’s Beta and official launch.
