When the newest iMacs were recently announced ooos and aaahhhs could be heard everywhere as the 27″ model was unveiled.  Apple’s largest iMac to date is sleek, sophisticated and downright sexy.

However, beauty only runs skin deep and the first few 27″ iMacs to roll off Apple’s shelves experienced some issues mostly related to their screens.  These issues included some cracked screens, flickering displays and a yellow, nicotine-like graphical patina.

The rumors was that Apple was scrambling to replace faulty ATI Radeon HD 4670 and 4850 GPUs in their iMacs and that what was causing sales of the 27″ iMac to be delayed.   This of course strongly implied the problem was hardware, not software. Nevertheless, Apple’s Software Update has just released a Graphics Firmware Update for the 27-inch iMac that “addresses issues that may cause image corruption or display flickering.”

Time will tell whether or not this solves the widescale problems people are having with their iMacs.
