Epic Games Shows Off Unreal Engine for iPod / iPhone

Posted on 23 December 2009 by

Cool stuff from AnandTech this morning. Mark Rein of Epic Games showed off a tech demo of the Unreal Engine 3 running on an iPod Touch as a test platform. The Unreal Engine 3 has powered some of the top games of the last few years, from Bioshock to Batman Arkham Asylum to Gears of War 1 & 2 to Borderlands to the upcoming Alpha Protocol.

While this isn’t a demo of any specific game, it shows the potential for the amazing range of games possible on the iPhone using a graphics platform that is already extremely popular. Also noted in the article is the fact that while Epic has recently made their development kit freely available, the tools for iPhone development are not part of that release. The author at AnandTech says he thinks that will change sooner than later … and I agree. It really just makes way too much sense.

Check out the video showing the demo in action!

I have loved technology for as long as I can remember - and have been a computer gamer since the PDP-10! Mobile Technology has played a major role in my life - I have used an electronic companion since the HP95LX more than 20 years ago, and have been a 'Laptop First' person since my Compaq LTE Lite 3/20 and Powerbook 170 back in 1991! As an avid gamer and gadget-junkie I was constantly asked for my opinions on new technology, which led to writing small blurbs ... and eventually becoming a reviewer many years ago. My family is my biggest priority in life, and they alternate between loving and tolerating my gaming and gadget hobbies ... but ultimately benefits from the addition of technology to our lives!
