I set out today to grab a netbook for someone and got a bit of a surprise…
I went to the local Walmart and, when I asked about getting a netbook, I was just about laughed at. “None in stock!” they said.
OK, I thought… so I went to my local BestBuy. There were tons on display. I waited in line to get the Samsung netbook only to be told they had none in stock. “Okay, I asked, how about the Dell?” “Sorry, the woman told me, we don’t have a single netbook in stock!”
I went to two more stores and found the exact same thing. I’m sure there are netbooks available SOMEWHERE in the state but NONE of my usual haunts has one.
Having a father who was heavily involved in early laser and fiber-optical research, Dan grew up surrounded by technology and gadgets. Dan’s father brought home one of the very first video games when he was young and Dan remembers seeing a “pre-release” touchtone phone. (When he asked his father what the “#” and “*” buttons were his dad said, “Some day, far in the future, we’ll have some use for them.”)
Technology seemed to be in Dan’s blood but at some point he took a different path and ended up in the clergy. His passion for technology and gadgets never left him. +Dan Cohen
I live in a relatively small town. Our local Staples had a big display of Acer netbooks two weeks ago, but they’re all gone now.

I picked one up Wednesday night at Best Buy. They had 5 left on the shelf. But when I asked if there were any more the salesperson said yes, we have HPs. They had a floor model of the HP on an end cap but none on the shelves. He went and got me one down off the high storage rack.
Wow, I never thought netbooks could be so popular and be sold out. I guess they would be a great gift for a good price. Good luck finding your netbook.
