AT&T has been under a barrage of attacks lately from Verizon’s coverage map commercials. They finally fired back with some lawyer action and some commercials of their own. Gizmodo did some field testing to find out who owns the crown for 3G data speeds in the US. Maybe not the best coverage, but in these 12 major cities AT&T is the champ. This isnt enough to make me switch, but hopefully enough to get other carriers to speed things up a bit.

The download tests show 6 major cities still run faster on AT&T than anyone else, and all 12 were considerably faster in uploads. The same test were ran from the same hardware numerous times at each site to prove the tests were valid. Hopefully they run more tests throughout the year after all the upgrades on the various networks are complete.

With all the latest tech integrated with 3G built-in out of the box, data speeds will continue to rise and competition become more ruthless. Maybe if they all stopped the commercial battles and kept dumping those millions into service upgrades, then we could choose our provider based on service and price over local coverage. Right now if its speed you desire, your gonna have to drink the juice and roll with AT&T.
