For once it is AT&T’s feathers being ruffled and not the other way around. To catch you up if you have missed today’s geek fun, “Fake Steve Jobs” has called on US iPhone users to join in his “Operation Chokehold” this Friday by using massive amounts of data on their iPhones. It comes on the heels of rumors that AT&T is planning to roll out new ways to curtail the huge amounts of data iPhones are consuming on their (lame, weak, already lousy) network. In essence he is asking us to say to AT&T, “You think you’ve seen iPhones using data?!?! You ain’t seen nothing yet!!”… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

(Courtesy of Wu Yausu) If you’ve been following Judie’s nook post, you may have noticed a debate about the Barnes and Noble/Spring Design lawsuit. Thanks to the magic of the internet, anyone can read Spring Design’s complaint, and being the intrepid blogger that I am, I set aside my distinct lack of a legal background and combed the document for any interesting tidbits. As was mentioned over in the nook comments, Spring Design does allege that Barnesandnoble.com president William Lynch told them, “He [Spring Design] should not consider Amazon as a content partner, because Amazon was likely to steal Spring’s unique idea without ever buying anything… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

I have made no secret of my excitement that Dragon Dictation is now out and available for US iPhone users. The app has transformed my iPhone usage and continues to be one of my most-used apps. The transcription process is fast, accurate and, currently, free. When the app was first released last week however some folks expressed concern that the app uploaded your contact list to Dragon’s servers when starting it for the first time. Well worry not! A new update makes the contact upload process optional. It also allows you to delete contact names that were previously uploaded. Dragon Dictation isn’t for everyone but for many of us it is already a home run… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

Along with the recent discovery of a 4th generation of the iPhone being field tested comes traces of a new iPhone operating system, 3.1.3 as well. If you’re like me you’re always sharing interesting links, pictures, notes, files and other stuff you come across on the internet with your friends, family and colleagues. Often times I do this sharing over Twitter but other times I use e-mail as well. The Mac has a really nifty way of allowing you to grab and drag most anything from the web and move the item somewhere else. That’s where Droplr comes in. Droplr places itself as a small icon on your Mac’s menu bar. When you want to share an item with someone you simply grab it and drag it to the Droplr icon, dropping it over the icon. The link, file, image, note is automatically turned into a link which you can then paste… Continue reading on Gear Diary …
