The news from Google just keeps on coming! Downloading all of your content hasn’t been easy when using Google Docs; you had to check off each document separately, and it took a lot of time and patience. Well now, Google has fixed this by allowing all Google Doc users to export everything (in 2GB zip files) at once. This will be a great way to have that set of backups, just in case. Google Groups has been a great way to have email distributions lists for personal and small business use. Google has now expanded Google Groups into Google Apps for Domains. Businesses can now use Groups for mailing Continue reading on Gear Diary …

I tried Notify, a small app that sits at the top of your Mac’s screen waiting to let you know when new mail arrives, briefly when it was initially released. At the time I opted for Google’s own email notifier. Why? Because Notify was rather limited in its functionality and offer few configuration options. Well Notify is back with the release of Notify 2 and I’m rather impressed.… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

While it’s true the iPod which is bundled on the iPhone and iPod Touch is pretty slick, sometimes you just have to break it down “old scho0l.” Check out my video demo of “iClassic” for jailbroken iPhones, which emulates the iPod Classic in every which way right on your iPhone. We are all feeling the financial pinch! Blue Plate Special is a weekly review of bargain apps for the iPhone and iPod Touch. Nothing over $.99. I have begun to like playing puzzle games, especially word games. Maybe I am getting old, but games that require thought have become more fun for me. I have reviewed many different types of puzzle games, including several word games but iAchieve has turned out to be not only fun and addictive but very unique. One of my Sophomore students showed me iAchieve Lite and told me I must try it because she thought I would love it. She was correct! I was instantly addicted. Continue reading on Gear Diary …

Pandora radio is one of the best Internet streamed music applications around these days. People use it on the desktops and on their smartphones (iPhone, Blackberry, etc.) In order for you to get it to play in your car however, usually requires some kind of aux jack hookup or some other 3rd party device to make it work properly. Now, what if you didn’t have to do that anymore? What if you could get your Pandora radio stations streamed directly to your car? Its not as far off as you may think. According to an article posted at GigaOm, “During an early afternoon panel at the SF Music Tech Summit, chief technology officer Tom Conrad said the… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

One of my favorite gadgets purchases of 2009 was the Livescribe Pulse smartpen. The pen records each stroke that is made on special paper. It also records what is said. Then, at a later date, I can display the text or hear what what going on in the room at the time I wrote a specific note. It really is quite remarkable and is now something I use each and every day. Livescribe is currently running a holiday promotion that looks like a great deal. From now until the end of the year you can get a 4GB Smartpen ProPack for just $229.95. (Normally this bundle, which includes a special edition 4GB black Pulse… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

I don’t know about other iPhone users, but I’m constantly in a search for The Perfect Casetm. There have been some cases that I have liked, from Beyza, or Belkin, or Vaja, but that doesn’t mean I’m not still looking for the right combination of function, prettiness, and price. Now Uniea, which has some nice-looking cases, is adding a couple of new designs to their line for the iPhone, and they are giving Gear Diary a bit of an early look. (I’ll be reviewing them in the next few weeks.) The Uniea U-Diamond case is a double-silicon, jacket/skin style case which will be available in a number of… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

All day I have been perking up at the sound of trucks on the street, each time hoping it would be the UPS truck delivering my much-anticipated Christmas present from my wonderful husband–the brand new Barnes & Noble nook eBook reader. My husband pre-ordered my nook on the very first day, so I knew I would get it before December 9. I did a little dance of joy yesterday to learn that he had gotten the tracking number for the shipment and that the nook was winging its way to me overnight!… Continue reading on Gear Diary …
