There’s no doubt that the game selection for Apple iPhone and touch devices is only getting larger and better, but the actual gameplay experience can sometimes leave much to be desired because iPhones and touches are slick devices with no handles or grips. What if you could take the iPhone or touch, and pop it into a device that would make it easier to grip and easier to use for two handled play? For $16.99 at USB Fever, you can.… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

kwiclick is a fabulous new Firefox extension that enhances the way you interact with content from services like Google, Twitter, YouTube, and more. I just installed it and after on a few minutes of use am hooked. In a nutshell kwiclick allows you to perform a search of text in Firefox by simply highlighting and clicking. And going one step further kwiclick pulls your search results out into a separate, smaller window you take with you as you browse. You can bring up the window to view your previous results at any time. You can tell kwiclick what services you’d like it to… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

Patrick was chosen to participate in the App Star Awards. The App Star Awards is the first contest to highlight and reward new iPhone apps eventually heading to the App Store … 30 apps will be preselected and our prestigious Jury will pick 3 lucky winners in each category (game, entertainment, utility and other). At Dan’s urging, I recently made the move from Mobile Me to G-Mail. I use multiple computers and using a cloud based e-mail, contact and calendar service just works much better for me now. I was seriously excited when I laid eyes on the Gboard, a G-Mail friendly keyboard add-on. The keyboard, which sells for $19.99, contains shortcuts to all the important G-Mail tasks and plugs in to any available USB port on your computer.… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

Welcome back to the GearGames weekly video game release feature here at Gear Diary! One thing I love is when a franchise is so strong that the publishers can release a game in a very weak period without gamers questioning the quality. This week we get the next entry in one of the great gaming franchises – The Legend of Zelda Spirit Tracks, out on the 8th for the Nintendo DS.… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

Concerned about keeping track of your kids in busy locations? According to Brickhouse Security, 2,185 kids go missing every day. So they created a solution: The Brickhouse Child Locator. GPS tagging your children may seem a bit odd, but Brickhouse makes it an easy and customizable experience. Small wristbands and keyrings house the GPS unit, and the “safety range” can be adjusted by the parent. And it’s not just for kids. A system like this can be used to track an elderly relative who may have dementia or similar problems; being able to track them down means giving someone more freedom to be independent, without worrying that it might come… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

Vacation is over but there is one more iPhone photo app I wanted to write about. Actually there are two apps that work beautifully together and allow you to create great looking photo “experience”. I learned about both from Larry and have been enjoying them ever since. The two apps are AutoStitch (here’s Larry’s review) and PixRemix (here’s Larry’s review) and they are awesome. Let’s take a look at what you can do with them when you use them together.… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

Thanks to my friends here on Gear Diary I’ve found some neat sites that I didn’t previously know about but now read daily. In fact a few months back I simply copied Larry’s Google Reader subscription list into mine and then removed the duplicates. The end result… WAY too many feeds to stay on top of but that isn’t a bad thing. It is kind of neat to realize that the varied interests of everyone on the site results in exposure to things that we might not otherwise hear of. To leverage that we’re adding a Facebook note to… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

Thanks to Gear Diary many of us get to try and then review the latest, and sometimes greatest, in electronic gear. (Truth is, most of us would be trying the gear ANYWAY but Gear Diary makes the obsession a bit more legit by letting us review it too!) Some of the gear gets reviewed and then never touch again. Other items, however, quickly become part of our day-to-day routine. You see, there is often a gap between what we review and what we actually use. Writing at Gear Diary often means that our personal gear changes more frequently than it otherwise might. So the question presented to the team was rather simple- “What gear Continue reading on Gear Diary …

(Gates courtesy of JKMedia) We all had that one device that led us into the world of true gadget loving. It’s that one device that you obsessed over, read about, joined forums to discuss…once it starts it’s an addiction. Since it’s the holidays, I thought it might be a good time to head down memory lane and see what gadget was our first geek love…… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

What’s that in my hand … a shoe? No, it’s the USB Fever Super Charger, one of the larger external battery packs I’ve seen for the iPhone 3G and 3GS. Unlike the separate power bricks we’ve reviewed, including the Callpod Fueltank Duo, the Super Charger is holster-style, meaning that you can actually dock your iPhone in the thing and make calls while the phone is being charged.… Continue reading on Gear Diary …
