Wouldn’t it be great to remotely start up your car using nothing but your smartphone? How nice would it be to just click a button to heat up your car from the comfort of your home or office? This week Viper, the maker of popular remote car startup & security modules, will be showing off their new BlackBerry application at CES that will give you all of these features and more.
The BlackBerry version will join Viper’s already popular iPhone app, letting you start, heat, lock/unlock, arm/disarm your car from practically any range. As long as your car is parked where it will be in range of a cellular signal, you’ll be in control your car.

Vista, California (CES) – Directed Electronics announced that its award-winning Viper SmartStart, which allows users to start their car with their iPhone, will also work on most BlackBerry smartphones starting in Q1 2010.According to Mike Simmons, Executive Vice President of Directed Electronics: “Viper SmartStart will soon be available on BlackBerry devices through a free app in BlackBerry App World, allowing BlackBerry users all of the great SmartStart features that iPhone users have been enjoying since the product was introduced in October.”
According to John Durbin, Director of Project Management for SmartStart, “Retailers already carry the necessary hardware – either the VSM100 Viper SmartStart module, or the equivalent DSM100 Directed SmartStart module, each with an MSRP of $299. Besides the free App, users will also need a compatible Viper remote start or remote start security system.”
The DSM100 is available at thousands of authorized Directed retailers nationwide while Viper SmartStart hardware continues to be available at Best Buy stores.
BlackBerry users with premium security or remote start systems from Viper, Clifford or Python will be able to download the free SmartStart app from APPWORLD, have the VSM100 or DSM100 professionally installed on their vehicle, then activate their account. Depending on installation, SmartStart users will be able to start their car, lock and unlock the doors, pop the trunk, or panic their horn or siren which can also be used as a car finder – all using their BlackBerry.

Soon you’ll be able able to remotely start your car using your BlackBerry smartphone. While the application itself will be free, keep in mind that it will require a compatible SmartStart module (VSM100 or DSM100) at a price of $299. The application is slated to be available by the end of this quarter, so expect it by the March/April timeframe.
