GearGames Weekly: January 24 – 30

Posted on 24 January 2010 by

Welcome back to the GearGames weekly video game release feature here at Gear Diary! We are now starting to see the games that were delayed last fall leaking into the release schedule – although the one that is dropping this week is more of a THUD than a leak! Mass Effect 2 is the follow-up to the 2007/2008 XBOX360 / PC game from Bioware. Wait – didn’t they just release Dragon Age: Origins? Yep – they’ve been quite busy! The game looks to fix the many items criticized in the earlier game (which still scored ~95%) and make it more of a streamlines action-shooter-RPG. So far the early looks are saying they’ve succeeded.

Aside from that, the only other release of note is the PS3 exclusive MAG, which looks to be a console first with up to 256 players online at once. There are a few other games coming out this week, so check out the list!

360

  • Mass Effect 2
  • Blood Bowl

ps3

  • MAG

wii

  • Tatsunoko vs. Capcom: Ultimate All-Stars
  • No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle
  • Horrible Histories: Ruthless Romans
  • Fast Food Panic
  • bittos+

ps2

  • No New Releases

psp

  • Shadow of Destiny

ds

  • Legend of Kay
  • Horrible Histories: Ruthless Romans
  • Playmobil Knights

pc

  • Mass Effect 2
  • Hotel Giant 2
  • Horrible Histories: Ruthless Romans
  • The Lost Cases of Sherlock Holmes, Vol. 2
  • Legend of Vraz

Some notes from last week:

  • Dark Void
  • - Some good ideas get bogged down with many more lousy ideas, poor graphics and dumb enemies.

  • Glory of Heracles
  • - Decent but unspectacular RPG that will give fans of older-style games decent fun.

What games am I playing now? Here is a sampling:

  • Mac: Dragon Age: Origins – I am thrilled at how well this plays on the Mac – much more like a direct port than a typical poor-performing Cider-wrapped port.
  • PC: Divinity II: Ego Draconis – deep into this one, and still having a great time, only a few bugs so far.
  • PSP: Final Fantasy VIII – this recently released PSN version of the 1999 PSOne RPG tends to polarize fans of the franchise … and so far I can see why!

So what are you playing? Chime in below!

Enjoy gaming!

I have loved technology for as long as I can remember - and have been a computer gamer since the PDP-10! Mobile Technology has played a major role in my life - I have used an electronic companion since the HP95LX more than 20 years ago, and have been a 'Laptop First' person since my Compaq LTE Lite 3/20 and Powerbook 170 back in 1991! As an avid gamer and gadget-junkie I was constantly asked for my opinions on new technology, which led to writing small blurbs ... and eventually becoming a reviewer many years ago. My family is my biggest priority in life, and they alternate between loving and tolerating my gaming and gadget hobbies ... but ultimately benefits from the addition of technology to our lives!
