We have read about how many copies the 2009 mega-hit game Modern Warfare 2 sold, but that was across three different gaming systems. Now a game that is a Wii-port of a super-popular DS game of the same titles that is essentially a new version of a classic Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) game has claimed the crown for being the fastest game to sell 10 million copies. The game has been out for eight weeks in North America and Europe and less than a month in Japan.

Most folks anticipate that within a few months at most New Super Mario Bros Wii (NSMB) will have greatly outsold Modern Warfare 2, which has performed like a blockbuster film by selling >3.6 million in one day, > 7 million in the first three weeks, and about 4 million in the 6 weeks since. All the while sales of NSMB have been on the rise – but that is exactly what has happened with the Nintendo DS version of the game, which was successful when it launched in spring of 2006 and has remained in the top 20 for all gaming systems ever since, now having sold well over 20 million copies.

Congrats to Nintendo! And if you have a Wii and haven’t tried this cool game yet – what are you waiting for?

I have loved technology for as long as I can remember - and have been a computer gamer since the PDP-10! Mobile Technology has played a major role in my life - I have used an electronic companion since the HP95LX more than 20 years ago, and have been a 'Laptop First' person since my Compaq LTE Lite 3/20 and Powerbook 170 back in 1991! As an avid gamer and gadget-junkie I was constantly asked for my opinions on new technology, which led to writing small blurbs ... and eventually becoming a reviewer many years ago. My family is my biggest priority in life, and they alternate between loving and tolerating my gaming and gadget hobbies ... but ultimately benefits from the addition of technology to our lives!

I believe it – the game is a blast for video game veterans and n00bs alike. It’s great with four players – I’ve never seen everyone laughing so much, as they die, jump on each other’s heads, bubble up for safety, etc :]
