all photos by Kevin I was impressed tonight to get a first look at a series of wireless charging solutions from PureEnergy Solutions. The system may be familiar to those who have previously experienced wireless charging solutions but the company is putting its own spin on the technology both in terms of style and pricing. Pricing-wise they are committed to being more than competitive with entire systems coming in at under $100. From a system perspective the company is working to make the shift to wireless charging as complete and simple as possible. The system begins with a WildCharge Pad. The pad is the main element in the system that allows the electrical current to flow to each of the devices that are being charged. There is one pad that is currently available and an additional option that is set for release sometime in 2010. A neat feature of the pad is that the entire surface is “live”- meaning that a device placed anywhere on the surface will begin charging immediately.… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

I love riding my bike in the spring and summer, but sometimes the sound of my own brain rattling around gets to me. It would be great to be able to listen to music, but it is pretty much a given that music+helmets=major safety hazard.… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

XtremeMac, maker of accessories for the iPhone and iPod Touch launched a new line of cases tonight at CES. I recently reviewed the case, the Microshield Accent, over on my YouTube channel and found it to be a nice alternative to the Incase Frame case. The case, which comes in four colors (Black, Blue, Yellow and Pink), features heavy duty silicon sides and an all clear, see through back. The cases are available now for $24.99 through the XtremeMac web site Continue reading on Gear Diary …

Griffin Technology has been a solid player in the wireless accessory market for a while now. At Digital Experience, one of the premier press events at CES 2010, Griffin unveiled their 2010 product line up. One of the stand out products is their “TuneJuice Universal”. Here’s what Griffin has to say about it. Sooner or later you’ll need a charge someplace where there are no electrical outlets around, and you’ll wish you could take the juice with you. With TuneJuice Universal, you can. Just pop 3 AA batteries in, slip it in a pocket for later, and take off. The built-in USB connector allows charging of a wide range of Continue reading on Gear Diary …

Do you own a home theater PC (HTPC)? Or do you have one of those jealousy inducing widescreen monitors, big enough to watch all the Hulu and Youtube your retinas can stand? Maybe you just like to sit a safe distance from the brightness of your screen. In any case, if you’ve ever wanted a compact keyboard and mouse to control your PC from a distance, EFO has some new products for you! These look a bit like a calculator, a smartphone and a laptop touchpad had a baby; essentially they’re perfect if you want the general concept of a keyboard and mouse in something closer to the size of a remote control, in bluetooth and wired versions. Check out the demo video and press release for more information!… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

As a guy who lives in Austin, but spends most working weeks in the Bay Area, I get a lot of comfort from modern communications technology. Cell phones, IM, texting, email, Skype . . . I’ve used ‘em all. But sometimes I wish I could just keep an eye on my little ones when I’m away, somehow. Just in case Mom is lying down for a rest while Joseph is “doing experiments” in the kitchen with the spices, bread dough, food coloring, those moisture-absorbing pellets that are in diapers, and last Sunday’s comics pages. Might be nice keeping an eye on that, yo.… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

Netbooks and eBook readers are gaining momentum (and who knows what will happen if the mythical iTablet moves into the real world from the universe of hope and vaporware?), and if you travel a lot–and if you have a netbook or eBook reader, you probably do, you technogypsy you–then you probably want a case for it. Uniea has a slightly different solution than the usual pouches, covers, and so on: they call it a “sleaf”. Uniea says, “The U-Sleaf reversible universal netbook sleeve for 10.2” netbooks. The U-Sleaf is also not like your typical laptop shell case. Instead of having lots of zippers and pockets, the U-Sleaf is a simple and stylish sleeve that allows you to easily slip your netbook in and out whenever you need it.” (It’s reversible, too.) So if you’re in the market for something to cover up your netbook or your Kindle DX, take a look at the sleaf. It has an MSRP of $19.95. Full press release after the jump.… Continue reading on Gear Diary …
