We’ve had a nice day and a half playing in Vegas. Good food, laughs, more food, more laughs, and more food. Did we mention food? Things shift shortly though. We’ve checked in, gotten our press passes and are headed to our first event shortly. As you can see, the news has already been flooding out today. New products and technology are flowing from every corner. We’re excited to see many of these new products first hand. We’re pretty well booked already, but are making sure to leave some time to walk the floor too. The big news, of course, are the numerous tablets that have been and will be announced. Mix in new eBook… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

When it comes to gear, there are a couple of things that I seem to perpetually be looking for the “best” version of (best for me, I mean). The perfect iPhone case; gear bags (which I’ll probably post on some day); and headphones. Well, in the world’s continuing effort to make my life more difficult, iLuv has come out with the “Tatz” series, which they describe as “a new line of high end headphones and earphones that offers the latest in precision acoustic engineering and contemporary styled graphics.” Quite frankly, I’m afraid to let my daughter see them, because she tends to go nuts over any gear she can find that’s pink (for example, for Channukah… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

I travel a lot. A lot a lot. With my family in Austin, but my work in the San Francisco Bay Area, I spend a lot of time in cabs, at airports, in planes, in trains, buses . . . if it moves, I’ve probably spent time riding on it or waiting for it. So thank god I have an iPhone with various eBook reading apps, games, internet access, Bluetooth, WiFi, and the whole smash. I mean, whew. The problem is, all that stuff under heavy use (say, on a flight from Austin to SFO) burns through the power, leaving you with a problem: how the heck do you charge on the go? Do you get a… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

(Image courtesy apple.com Apple just loves to rain on parades. This week, the Nexus One is sashaying into the smartphone fray, and the best and the brightest of the tech products are on display at CES. Just in case the repeated tablet rumors weren’t enough, now Apple has announced that 3,000,000,000 apps have been downloaded from the app store. Presumably all those iPod Touches and iPhones sold during the holidays helped quite a bit. And what’s that sad noise from the corner? Poor Palm and their 1,000 apps…this news is going to really galvanize Apple’s competitors into action! Via Boy Genius Report Continue reading on Gear Diary …

As great as all of our mobile devices are, they still rely on batteries…which are often drained when we need them the most. Sure, there are plenty of products to help zap another charge in an emergency; but they often rely on being charged up beforehand. YoGen’s launching their own “Green” mobile charging solution at CES that aims to get you out of any sticky situation where you need to charge up your devices. Using good ol’ “human power” you just pull on the cord for a few minutes to charge your phone, bluetooth headsets, eReaders, GPS, etc. Whether you just want to keep an emergency charger in the car, or you need a reliable way to make sure you’re prepared during the next trip or outdoor adventure, the YoGen charger won’t leave you stranded. Apple has reportedly entered the mobile advertising business by purchasing Quattro Wireless for near $300 million. This puts Apple with the likes of Google and Microsoft in the fight for advertising revenue. For a relatively low price, Apple enters this new phase of business. What does this mean for Apple? Nobody will know for sure right now, but I think it might be tied to some of the information that will be released later this month. Apple has already become a giant with smartphones and the app store is a huge success. Why not share in the revenue of ads placed on apps or in… Continue reading on Gear Diary …
