As a word nerd, I kind of admire words like “dope.” It can mean “stupid,” of course, but also marijuana; that stuff that they used to put on airplanes to tighten their fabric (ah, those were the days!); and also information, as in “the straight dope.”
And when it comes to helping you sort through the tens of thousands of apps that iTunes has, with more coming every day and prices changing all the time, the folks at Sauce Digital are most definitely using the word “dope” in the latter form: they want to give the dope on all those iTunes apps through their new web site, http://www.appdope.com.
At AppDope, they have promo codes to get free apps, lists of newly released apps, and information on app price drops (like when InfeCCt dropped from $9.99 to $0.99, for example–that would have been good to know as soon as possible!). AppDope also provides you with ways to filter-search through the application lists, so you have a better chance of finding that game that’s just like Myst, but not by the folks at Cyan. Or whatever you’re into.
I don’t know about anyone else, but I’m going to give it a look-see myself.
More info after the jump.
The team that brought you iPhone games Nano Rally and Killer Pool, and the website 12daysofchristmasapps.com have launched their new website, AppDope.com http://www.appdope.com.
AppDope was started to run the same Promo Code giveaway competition as 12daysofchristmasapps, but every week. Every Friday AppDope and its contributing developers will give away lots of Promo Codes to give users some great apps for free. Developers are already adding codes for this Friday’s inaugural giveaway – know as the MEGACOMP. There are already 50 codes waiting to be given away.
There is more to AppDope than just this however. AppDope is constantly checking iTunes for all the newly released apps as they hit the App Store, and even better, constantly checks for all the new price drops. You can view the results on the site, and filter the results for your particular interests. So if users want to check all the Arcade Games that have been just dropped in price, or become free, this is the place to go. Searches can also filtered by the global star rating, so it’s possible to also keep an eye on the highly rated apps that have dropped in price.
There is also a news section and a review area to keep users up to date with all the app related goings on.
AppDope is a useful resource for any appaholic, highlighting the hidden gems, popular freebies and new releases that no-one knows are available yet. Combine that with a weekly mass promo giveaway, and hopefully AppDope will be a great way to get the most from an increasingly busy App Store.
