GearGames Weekly: February 7 – 13

Posted on 07 February 2010 by

Welcome back to the GearGames weekly video game release feature here at Gear Diary! This is a ‘Big Daddy’ of a week … ok, that was relly bad. The big release of the week is yet another delayed but highly anticipated multi-platform game Bioshock 2, the sequel to the critically acclaimed 2007 release. Early reviews are very positive.

Aside from that, the only other release of note is the XBOX360 & PS3 release Dante’s Inferno, which is based on the epic poem (loosely) but has gotten very mediocre early opinions. My personal pick is the Wii version of the excellent hard-as-nails DS game Shiren the Wanderer. There are a few other games coming out this week, so check out the list!

360

  • BioShock 2
  • Dante’s Inferno
  • Darwinia+
  • World of Outlaws: Sprint Cars

ps3

  • BioShock 2
  • Dante’s Inferno
  • Star Ocean The Last Hope: International

wii

  • Shiren the Wanderer
  • Super Monkey Ball: Step & Roll
  • Family Party: 30 Great Games Winter Fun

psp

  • No New Releases

ds

  • Bookworm Adventures
  • Scene It? Twilight
  • Best Friends Tonight
  • The Daring Game for Girls

pc

  • BioShock 2
  • Stargate Resistance
  • N.E.O. Online
  • Windchaser
  • Sins of a Solar Empire: Trinity
  • Galcon Fusion

Some notes from last week:

  • Star Trek Online
  • - Generally solid MMO but with too many compromises to be truly great.

  • White Knight Chronicles International Edition
  • - The sort of game that would generally fit in the slow January release schedule is just too mediocre to matter this year.

  • S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat
  • - This is how STALKER should have always been – runs great, and loads of fun and depth,

What games am I playing now? Here is a sampling:

  • Mac: Dragon Age: Origins – despite enjoying the game I have become known as ‘needlessly negative’ on the official forums because I am pushing for some news of a patch or the release of the DLC / expansion.
  • PC: Mass Effect 2 – still having a blast.
  • DS: Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes – I love puzzle-RPG games like this, and it is a wonderful, wonderful game.
  • PSP: SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Fireteam Bravo 3 – I noticed that IGN already broke the Feb. 9th embargo, but I won’t break it in order to say it is the best game if the series by far … oops!

So what are you playing? Chime in below!

Enjoy gaming!

Mobile Technology has played a major role in my life - I have used an electronic companion since the HP95LX more than 20 years ago, and have been a 'Laptop First' person since my Compaq LTE Lite 3/20 and Powerbook 170 back in 1991! As an avid gamer and gadget-junkie I was constantly asked for my opinions on new technology, which led to writing small blurbs ... and eventually becoming a reviewer many years ago. My family is my biggest priority in life, and they alternate between loving and tolerating my gaming and gadget hobbies ... but ultimately benefits from the addition of technology to our lives!
