Going green can save you money, give you some possible tax credits, and is good for mother earth. Unfortunately going Green usually means an empty wallet. With the push for a greener society, technology steps in and lets us do our part to help our save us some cash and in the long run save our planet. Many manufacturer’s now have products that let us monitor our electricity usage and help us turn off our high energy products at home while not in use. Some are easy to setup, and some take a visit from the Nerd Herd which means more money and aggravation.
Wattbox is looking to change all that. Their new system is not yet released to the public, but when it is may help you save some real cash on your home water and heating bills. The best parts about this system is that it does not need to be installed in a modern home, its adaptable to almost any living space and is a cinch to use. It’s primary design is to be simple and self monitoring to learn your habits and adjust accordingly. The Wattbox team is funded by the UK’s Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council, and is working off of a $3.3M grant.
Research shows that the current adaptable and timed thermostat’s can be a pain to setup and operate. Tests show heating costs can be reduced up to 14% just by making the thermostat easier for the consumer to use. The device will be easy to use when the automated controls are not adjusting enough heat or cold. A simple more heat, less heat button will allow you to easily adjust the temps if your not satisfied with the system learned presets.
What does this mean to you? Basically a no brainer home monitor that will automatically adjust your water temps and heating (depending on your setup) to save you money when it’s not in use. Great idea, cause I know what I pay for this stuff with a programmable thermostat and it still doesn’t really help. Hopefully we see more great green ideas in the near future. For now, you can check out some of the other home monitoring devices available. No pricing or availability yet.
