This morning Google has announced their plan to build and test ultra high speed broadband networks in a group of test communities across the United States. All the better to collect your data and get those advertisements served, posthaste!
We’ll deliver Internet speeds more than 100 times faster than what most Americans have access to today with 1 gigabit per second, fiber-to-the-home connections. We plan to offer service at a competitive price to at least 50,000 and potentially up to 500,000 people.
They are looking for people from communities to respond nominating their hometowns, and they are particularly interested in hearing from community leaders of those places. Bear in mind that this is only an experiment at this point, Google is in a hurry – they want to move on this quickly, and it is rather unclear what the larger, long-term goal of this experiment will be. But! In the meantime, if you want your town to be part of what could be an amazing internet access experiment, you need to press the Get Involved button on the newly created Google Fiber page NOW.
I wonder what it would take to get this installed at the ranch … ![]()
