TabToolkit For iPhone Major Update

Posted on 16 February 2010 by

Several months ago, I reviewed Agile’s TabToolkit.  The app allows for guitarists to search and save guitar tabs on the iPhone.  When a tab is discovered using the native browser, the app sees the tab file and allows for auto saving.  It is quick, simple, and works well.  As an added bonus, Power Tab and Guitar Pro files are usable and allow for the tab to be played in real-time with midi instruments.  Come see a quick look at the update after the break.

The update takes the instrument playback to a new level now supporting multi-track playback.  The entire song is now viewable and heard as the song is played.  Each track’s volume can be adjusted or the tracks can be muted.  This is allows guitarists to use the iPhone as a complete band practice when there is no buddies to jam with.

Once the update installed, the app converted all of the midi files available with multi-track playback.  The conversion literally took seconds.  Controlling the tracks is super easy and is great for breaking down multi-guitar riffs.  Here is a look at a Guns N Roses song.  As you can see, each track is labeled (even with the musician’s name).  Want to play the rhythm part?  Mute out the midi vocals and Slash’s part and concentrate on Izzy’s power riff.

This is a brilliant addition to an already great app.  Check out my review of TabToolkit and GuitarToolkit.  I truly use both of these apps several days a week.  I would use them everyday if I had the time to play!  Get the app here in the app store for $9.99.
