This is a joint review between Jason and Judie. Jason’s comments will be in black; Judie’s will be in blue italics. I recently got to spend a few days with the AT&T LG eXpo. Quite honestly, the main attraction for wanting to use this Windows Mobile 6.5 packin’ phone is its ability to be used with a Pico Projector add-on for presentations, demos, or home movies. As misfortune would have it, the demo unit I was sent shipped without the Pico Projector. Arggggghhhhh! : -( I received the LG eXpo a little over a month ago. Just like Jason, I was intrigued by the Pico Projector option and its possibilities. Because after all, if you could fit all the data you would need for a presentation onto your mobile phone, and if it meant not having to bring along a laptop or hook up to an overhead, wouldn’t you rather bring only the phone? As for watching home movies, that wasn’t really a scenario I was picturing, unless it was something someone would do just because they could … not that there’s anything wrong with that. So let’s start with how the Windows Mobile eXpo fares as web-browsin’-appointment-schedulin’-email-and-messaging-call-makin’ phone. Could [...]

Amazon is hiring…and it looks like the über-Kindle might be coming! The NY Times Bits Blog are either combing Amazon’s job listings or looking to jump from the Grey Lady before all newspapers are swallowed by the iPad. In either case, they spotted a few interesting listings [Note: Listings may not be entirely accurate. For the true job listings, click here.] One engineer with LCD experience. Do we mean color LCD experience? You won’t find out until you get here. If we make it clear in the listing, then everyone will know. We’re already under pressure from a certain fruit company, and half the tech world thinks our flagship product is DOA, and the other half Continue reading on Gear Diary …

Looks like Android 2.1 is coming this week! My poor Droid has been in counseling, working through its inferiority complex and Nexus One envy…the update will be a big step for it! Supposedly the update will bring: Multitouch browsing Google goggles Fancy weather and news widgets Missing in action: Live wallpapers New look for the app drawer Laundry detergent dispenser I am excited for multitouch in the browser and hope it comes to more apps soon! You have no idea how many times I try to pinch and pull photos, like somehow they will magically be multitouch. The only other issue I hope this update fixes is the proximity sensor. During long… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

Image courtesy of Gizmag Going green can save you money, give you some possible tax credits, and is good for mother earth. Unfortunately going Green usually means an empty wallet. With the push for a greener society, technology steps in and lets us do our part to help our save us some cash and in the long run save our planet. Many manufacturer’s now have products that let us monitor our electricity usage and help us turn off our high energy products at home while not in use. Some are easy to setup, and some take a visit from the Nerd Herd which means more money and aggravation.… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

I’m a big fan of puzzle games, especially ones that don’t have a time element involved. (Or preferably don’t require excellent twitch reflexes and small muscle coordination. Glyder is about the fastest-paced game I can handle. I have this neck injury, see . . .) I’ve spent hours playing everything from Scrabble to Myst to Bejeweled. So when Onmsoft came out with a new puzzle game that didn’t have a time element–or at least let you choose a non-time-element option–I wanted to check it out.… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

the dry Squidarella Like much of the country, West Texas has been experiencing a wetter than usual late winter. Rather than snow, we have had rain … nearly 6″ in some parts of my county alone. Due to the weather, I’ve found myself reaching for an umbrella more times in the last couple of weeks than I had in the last few years. And since my umbrella has basically become a regular accessory, I can’t help but wishing that it was as colorful and interesting as this one. Urbantrim has just launched a new collection of color changing umbrellas. “The umbrellas start with a black and white design, but each drop of rain that falls will reveal the bright colors underneath until the whole design is transformed. Its produced by a London based design team (SquidLondon) and we are bringing it to the US for the very first time. The technology behind the ink, which is responsible for the color morphing, has been painstakingly developed and is truly one of a kind. We will hopefully be launching a whole range of products over time. Squidarella, as we call them, have been picked up both by the Tate Modern in London [...]

The Google Nexus One is still receiving a lot of attention. Its is one of the “it” phones of 2010. Most people love it, but there are those who take issue with it, either due to performance issues or support issues. Last week, Google fixed the performance issues with an update. It also enabled some really cool features, such as multitouch. This week, some equally cool things are in the works. On a monetary note, Google has removed the termination fees for those Nexus One buyers who returned their phone for whatever reason. Also, Google has drastically lowered the termination fee it charges for customers who, for some reason, do not want to… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

The open source community has been hard at work releasing a wide assortment of free linux based operating systems for almost anything. Linus Torvalds is known as the father of Linux after writing the first kernel in 1991, everything afterward is a result of his quest to be free. In fact, all these (linux) operating systems are free, and easily obtainable from sites all over. Netbooks are nearly in every household these days, most of which are running Windows XP or the newly famed Windows 7. If your tired of Windows or ready to venture out into the world of Linux, you have quite a bit of options. I put together a list of some of the more popular versions of Linux specifically designed for Netbooks.… Continue reading on Gear Diary …
