Motorola HS1001 Seeks to Become Your “At Home” Connected Phone

Posted on 03 March 2010 by

If you’re like me, you use your wireless phone for everything.  My iPhone never leaves my grasp, and even at home I find myself using it read e-mail on the sofa, or browse the TV guide.  While this is good for my information consumption it’s very bad for my iPhone’s battery life, and as a result I find myself constantly having to recharge my phone.

Thanks to Motorola, I’ll soon be able to leave my iPhone alone — yet still stay in hand’s reach of my telephone calls.

The DSP Group, Inc. a leading global provider of wireless chip set solutions for converged communications at home and Binatone, a Motorola Official Licensee and a leading consumer electronics firm, announced today that Binatone has chosen DSP Group’s XpandR chip set for its multimedia cordless home phone powered by the Android operating system.

The Motorola phone will be available Q3 2010 in the US.  The  HS1001 cordless phone offers Internet services such as e-mail and web browsing, via local Wi-Fi connectivity, and a touch screen interface with a virtual keyboard at packed into a handset you use at home.

The phone which is being marketed under the name Motorola directly through retailers and will be available Q3 2010.

With the power of Google Voice, I’ll be able to receive the same calls I would normally receive on my iPhone on this home phone, and still be plugged into the internet at the same time, thus sacrificing very little.

I have always had a passion for gear and gadgets. It all started for me with the release of the very first Palm Pilot. I've always had an interest in handheld electronics. From handheld PDAs, to cell phones, Mp3 players, watches and other products, I'm the first person my friends, family and colleagues call when they need advice on tech. I have roots in the online tech. forum community. I served as the Administrator to Howard Forums.com and as a Moderator at both Treo Central.com and Blackberry Forums.net. Under the screen name “lgreenberg” I've amassed 50,000+ postings. I also manage my own YouTube channel under the user name larrygreenberg. I'm always eager to help.
