I love them both. Best thing about them is that it's easy for me to hold them (I have problems with my hands and heavy books) Love the Kindle 1 for the big buttons, and I love the Kindle 2 for the text-to-speech when my eyes are having problems. The e-ink technology does not strain my eyes, I have my font size on the second to the largest and I love being able to have hundreds of my favorite books at my fingertips, ready to read in an instant! The first book I read on Annabelle (yes, my Kindle must be named and properly accessorized, complete with decalgirl skin, a borsabella bag, a mighty light, and several covers!) was Distant Cousin, a wonderfully different sci-fi story. I've read over 90 books and counting since then! I love showing Annabelle off, she gets so many compliments! And I love kindleboards, which keeps me updated on free and bargain books! It easily slips into my purse and is light and easy to carry, unlike many DTB I have read. When my eyes are tired from working on the computer all day I can increase the font on the K2 and there is no eye strain from screen refresh. I am a voracious reader and the K2 allows me to carry hundreds of books with me wherever I go. It's my favorite gadget. I love my K2! It easily slips into my purse and is light and easy to carry, unlike many DTB I have read. When my eyes are tired from working on the computer all day I can increase the font on the K2 and there is no eye strain from screen refresh. Like the Sony, LOVE the Kindle. Love having so many books in one small package. Love the availability of so much free material. I can take 100s of books with me where ever I go and don't have to choose only one. I can choose to read anything and in 5 minutes decide to read something else without carting around a purse full of books. I can read whatever I want without anyone knowing what I am reading. I have my Kindle in an Oberon cover so it feels more like a leather bound book. I have a Kindle 2 and love it. I love the eink screen, looks like a paperback. The battery life is great, when I turn off the wireless. Also, it's easy to hold the Kindle and turn pages with only one hand, which is extremely useful when standing on the subway or bus.
