The Tablet Wars Heat Up With Leaked Images and Specs For Dell Streak

Posted on 10 March 2010 by

Timing is everything in the world of tech. Just days before CES, Apple stole some of the buzz by sending out invites to their late January 2010 press event. Then, right before Mac World, Apple announced the iPad. Now, just days before iPad pre-ordering begins images- and specs- for Dell’s upcoming tablet have appeared. And while I’m still all about the iPad, I just may have to find a way to pick up one of these because… this thing looks sweet.

We already knew about the 5-inch WVGA (800 x 480) touchscreen Android device was that it had a 5 megapixel autofocus camera, capacitive touch front buttons, front-facing VGA camera and 30-pin docking connector. What we NOW know is that the tablet is called the Streak, will come in an array of colors and… wait for it… it will have tight integration with Amazon for content delivery. That means the device will be primed for use with Amazon MP3, Amazon video streams and, you guessed it, a Kindle app.

From the pictures it look great. From the specs it looks quite usable. But, as with the iPad, we won’t know how great (or not) it is until we actually get a chance to hold and use it. And pricing and availability are still unknown.

Having a father who was heavily involved in early laser and fiber-optical research, Dan grew up surrounded by technology and gadgets. Dan’s father brought home one of the very first video games when he was young and Dan remembers seeing a “pre-release” touchtone phone. (When he asked his father what the “#” and “*” buttons were his dad said, “Some day, far in the future, we’ll have some use for them.”) Technology seemed to be in Dan’s blood but at some point he took a different path and ended up in the clergy. His passion for technology and gadgets never left him. +Dan Cohen

Would you be able to connect a BT keyboard to this device? I’m a total Android newbie.

That is a great question unfortunately I don’t have an answer and I’m not sure one is known yet. I certainly hope this is the case as it would add a good deal of usability to the device.
