Bye Bye Simplify Music

Posted on 13 March 2010 by

Simplify Music was one of the best apps back when iPhone 2.0 launched and permitted 3rd Party apps. It allowed you to access the music on your home computer from your iPhone from anywhere so long as you had an active data connection. Better still, it allowed you to grant permission to up to 30 friends so that THEY could access YOUR music and YOU could access THEIRS.

That mean my 70GB of music suddenly became well over 150GB once I added Wayne, Larry, Travis and more to my account. Unlimited music thanks to sharing with friends and it was all LEGAL.

Well those days are gone.

A quick visit over to the Simplify Media Web site displayed a post entitled An Important Announcement.

“Uh Oh” I thought… and… Uh Oh was right.

Simplify is no more…

The text of the announcement was short and sweet. (Ok short and sour…)

After developing the technology behind Simplify Media for over 4 years, it is time for us to take it in a new direction. In order to focus on this transition, we will no longer be offering the current software to new users. Today we are removing the Simplify iPhone applications from the App Store, and new account creation will be disabled shortly after that. However, existing Simplify accounts and clients will continue to work fine.

We are unable to share our future plans at this time but hope to be able to announce the re-launch of the technology soon. In the meantime, we will continue to operate the existing service for at least the next 3 months. Many thanks to those of you who have supported us and helped us improve Simplify over the last few years! We hope you will enjoy its future incarnations as well.
What will change about my account?
Existing account holders can continue to use the service and software to access their own music and photos.

Will my account be going away in the future?
We will be announcing future plans at a later date, but we will continue to operate the service for at least the next 3 months.

Will you continue to offer any kind of tech support?
Our support plan is under review, but no change is being made at this time, so email support and web support documentation are still available.

So those who want Simplify are out of luck.

Those of us who have Simplify can enjoy it for three months.

And they aren’t kidding. You see, at the end of the post were these words…

Sadly, Simplify Off as well.

Having a father who was heavily involved in early laser and fiber-optical research, Dan grew up surrounded by technology and gadgets. Dan’s father brought home one of the very first video games when he was young and Dan remembers seeing a “pre-release” touchtone phone. (When he asked his father what the “#” and “*” buttons were his dad said, “Some day, far in the future, we’ll have some use for them.”) Technology seemed to be in Dan’s blood but at some point he took a different path and ended up in the clergy. His passion for technology and gadgets never left him. +Dan Cohen

Can’t sorry I’m upset about it. I’ve had it on my computer since the day it was released. I was even a beta tester. I think I can count the number of times I’ve actually used it on one hand. Nice idea but for some reason I just never caught onto it.
