It has been inevitable for quite some time. At some point there would be a merger of a high quality point and shoot with an HD pocket camcorder into one small device that does both still and hidef video without major compromise on either one. Well that’s just what Sony has done with the brand new DSC-HX5V. Better still, it come in at a more than reasonable price thanks to the deal our GearSponsor has tracked down.

The Sony DSC-HX5V is a small package but packs a good deal of punch. It has a 10.2 megapixel camera, anti-motion blur mode, “intelligent sweep panorama mode” (this looks awesome!!), 10fps image capture and the ability to shoot real high def movies. Some additional bells and whistles include image stabilization, integrated GPS and compass, Sony’s “transferjet” technology, face detection and smile shutter technology”. And the list of features goes on… and one…

The Sony DSC-HX5V was just released and has an MSRP of $349.99. That’s a pretty good price for something that packs this much technology into such a small package. With this GearDeal, however, you can get it for just $316.54. It will even ship for free but hurry. We’re not sure how long this deal will last so if you want one… grab it now.

Having a father who was heavily involved in early laser and fiber-optical research, Dan grew up surrounded by technology and gadgets. Dan’s father brought home one of the very first video games when he was young and Dan remembers seeing a “pre-release” touchtone phone. (When he asked his father what the “#” and “*” buttons were his dad said, “Some day, far in the future, we’ll have some use for them.”) Technology seemed to be in Dan’s blood but at some point he took a different path and ended up in the clergy. His passion for technology and gadgets never left him. +Dan Cohen
