So many of the arguments for and against getting an iPad are…well in a word they are specious.

Some buying the iPad are buying it just because… it is coming from Apple. Others aren’t buying it just because… it is coming from Apple.

Some buying the iPad are buying it because it will run all the apps they currently own. Others aren’t buying it because it doesn’t run flash or currently let apps run in the background.

The bottom line is, there are lots of arguments for AND against buying the iPad right now, but most of the people taking positions aren’t making their case for or against buying all that well.

In a number of posts I’ve tried to make my case FOR buying it– it fits my desire to go paperless, it fits my current work style, and it fits my needs with regard to weight. I don’t NEED it but I suspect that it will quickly become my most-used device. I’ll know better in two weeks.

Well Xavier Lanier from GottaBeMobile and Notebooks.com has decided NOT to buy an iPad and, for once, the argument for not jumping in the deep end is made quite well.

Whether you are buying an iPad, not buying or still on the fence it is a good read and can be found here.

Having a father who was heavily involved in early laser and fiber-optical research, Dan grew up surrounded by technology and gadgets. Dan’s father brought home one of the very first video games when he was young and Dan remembers seeing a “pre-release” touchtone phone. (When he asked his father what the “#” and “*” buttons were his dad said, “Some day, far in the future, we’ll have some use for them.”) Technology seemed to be in Dan’s blood but at some point he took a different path and ended up in the clergy. His passion for technology and gadgets never left him. +Dan Cohen
