Review: USB Fever Portable Micro USB Charger

Posted on 30 March 2010 by Joel McLaughlin

MicroUSB is becoming ubiquitous.   My Kindle uses it.  My wife’s Blackberry Pearl takes it.  My work phone uses it.  It’s fast becoming the replacement for MiniUSB.  With the increase of Micro USB gadgetry in my arsenal, I jumped at the chance to get this new charger from USB Fever.

This thing is tiny.  It’s about the size of 4 AAA batteries, but is a sealed rechargeable battery with a Micro USB Input and an Output for charging.

The face of it has a button and some LED’s.  Press the button and it will show you an approximation of how much charge is left on the battery.

The only other ports are the Micro USB output sticking out the top and a Micro USB socket for plugging a charger on the bottom.

The battery is the only item included in the box.  Fortunately the charger for my work provided Sprint Nextel phone is perfect for charging the battery up.  It would have been nice to include a cable or charger, but I think I have enough of these hanging around already finding something to charge it shouldn’t be a problem.

The battery has a 1900 mA capacity.  I was able to top off my wife’s Blackberry Pearl Flip multiple times and this extending the run time of the phone.  When we’re away from an outlet for an extended amount of time, this battery is going in our bag.

The Portable Micro USB charger is available from $22.99 from USB Fever.

What I like: Small and portable.

What needs improvement: Would be nice if they threw in a Micro USB cable.  However, I can live without it.
