Welcome back to the GearGames weekly video game release feature here at Gear Diary! A couple of very different but highly anticipated releases this week. First, we have another ‘delayed from the fall’ game, Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Conviction. Early looks say that the changes made to gameplay have paid off nicely.

The other major release is the first episode of the third season of a modern reinvention of a classic adventure franchise – Sam & Max: The Devil’s Playhouse Episode 1: The Penal Zone. It has already come out for the iPad, and releases for Mac, PC, and PS3 this week. The cool thing with these games are they are great examples of truly episodic gaming! Actually, there are a couple of other things – read on to find out!

Some notes from last week:

  • Mass Effect 2: Kasumi’s Stolen Memory
  • - The add-on is well done in general, but we find out that Kusami isn’t a particularly interesting character.

  • Borderlands: Double Game Add-On Pack
  • - These were already released on the consoles and were very good then, and the PC versions are also quite good.

What games am I playing now? Here is a sampling:

  • DS: Secret Files: Tunguska – the North American release has been delayed again and again for two years, and didn’t happen again last week – so I grabbed the European English version.
  • PC: Tron 2.0 – not quite done yet, but thoroughly loving this classic!
  • Mac : The Settlers 7: Paths to a Kingdom – hard to enjoy the actual game between the DRM and Cider performance hits, and so on … !

So what are you playing? Chime in below!

Enjoy gaming!

I have loved technology for as long as I can remember - and have been a computer gamer since the PDP-10! Mobile Technology has played a major role in my life - I have used an electronic companion since the HP95LX more than 20 years ago, and have been a 'Laptop First' person since my Compaq LTE Lite 3/20 and Powerbook 170 back in 1991! As an avid gamer and gadget-junkie I was constantly asked for my opinions on new technology, which led to writing small blurbs ... and eventually becoming a reviewer many years ago. My family is my biggest priority in life, and they alternate between loving and tolerating my gaming and gadget hobbies ... but ultimately benefits from the addition of technology to our lives!
