What does Jeff Beck have in common with fellow British Invasion veterans like Paul McCartney of The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, and The Who? Well, he is British, was a huge force in music more than 45 years ago, and is easily old enough to be the grandparent of the average teenager listening to rock music.

How is he different? He still makes music that MATTERS. If the Super Bowl ‘oldies revival’ by The Who (the same guys who proclaimed they hoped they died before they got old) shows anything, it is a reminder that pretty much everyone from that generation has dried up creatively and is happy trotting out their old hits to thrill aging audiences.

But Jeff Beck never rested on his laurels – the last decade had him pushing out three hard-driving techno-inspired recordings that not only blew away anything his contemporaries had done since the 70′s, it also showed that he was still a force to be reckoned with as a musician and artist. In 2008 he released a live recording, and now in 2010 he follows it up with his first studio release in more than 7 years.

Today only, grab the newly released Emotion & Commotion at Amazon.com MP3 Store for $4.99!

I grabbed it as soon as I saw the link, and got to listen to some on my drive to work. While it lacks the rough edge of some of his other recent work, it is inspired music that shows his ability to produce touchingly lyrical melodies as well as breaking out plenty of ‘shredding’ chops when needed. So far I like it quite a bit – certainly worth $5!

So if you are a Jeff Beck fan, or a fan of rock music in general, I definitely suggest checking this out – you can always use the preview links before buying!
