Blue Plate Special: Ragdoll Blaster 2 Lite For iPhone/Touch/iPad

Posted on 14 April 2010 by

We are all feeling the financial pinch!    Blue Plate Special is a weekly review of bargain apps for the iPhone and iPod Touch. Nothing over $.99.

The iPhone has become a great puzzle gaming platform.  A style of game I have come to enjoy are physics puzzles.  There are many different versions of the genre, but each of them use the amazing physics possibilities on the iPhone to create a unique game.  So to carry on the idea of uniqueness, how about firing rag dolls out of a canon to solve the puzzle?  Well, that is exactly how Ragdoll Blaster 2 is played.

The idea of the game was strange to me at first also.  Once you play the game though, the addictiveness of shooting rag dolls will surprise you.  The game is a follow-up to the original Ragdoll Blaster but with many new features.  The graphics, physics, sound and game play have been drastically improved over the original version.  Simply fire the dolls to move items, knock down obstacles and solve the puzzles.  Each level is full of unique challenges and a variety of items.

-Incredibly simple yet addictive
-Action packed
-Single tap to aim and fire
-Flying, talking ragdolls
-More real physics
-All new mechanics such as gravity effects, teleporters, and much more
-Plus+ integration
-Awards
-Submit and compare scores online per room
-Saves game progress
-30 levels of ragdoll fun

Ragdoll Blaster 2 Lite contains excellent graphics with a definite steam punk feel.  The levels are detailed and unique, each one feeling much different than the last.

To shoot the rag doll, tap the screen and let go.  A target site will guide the aiming process and turning on the laser sites will also help.  The doll will literally shoot to the target area so aiming further away will add more power to the blast.  Some puzzles require a lob shot so learning to aim is important early in the game.  Early levels of the game will help to train the player’s aim as well as learn the physics.  Each level contains a small red and white target.  When a doll touches that target, the level will collapse signifying completion.

Levels start out simple and gradually become more difficult.  As the game advances, each puzzle will require more thought as well as more skill.  Ragdoll Blaster 2 does a great job mixing puzzle solving skills along side doll shooting skills.  Be sure to look for buttons and switches that must be flipped and angled boards to bounce the dolls.  If the cannon is on ice or wheels, the kick of the blast will push the canon in the opposite direction.  These levels may require the cannon to actually be driven to another location to hit the target.  Gravity effects and teleporters will test speed and trajectory skill and keep the game interesting and difficult.  I have played quite a few levels and am amazed at the varied game play available.

The Lite version of Ragdoll Blaster 2 is a generous offering.  The game is high quality and 30 levels is a lot of fun for a free version of a paid game.  Win awards along the way and compare scores online with the Plus+ integration.  A word of warning though.  The game is extremely addicting and fun!  Go find out how fun it really is to shoot rag dolls out of a cannon here in the app store.  The game is FREE!

What I like: Great graphics.  Unique physics puzzle game play.

What could use improvement: The squeaking doll noises are kind of creepy.
