A lot of people have noticed “the fingerprints problem,” including our own Larry G., who was just posting about it yesterday:

Fingerprints.  It’s perhaps my biggest pet peeve about the iPad’s glorious screen.  It’s one gigantic fingerprint magnet.  Unless you plan on joining the Men In Black (they remove your fingerprints), it’s something you just have to deal with.

Larry told you about one solution:  styli.  But there’s another solution that Speck is offering:  their new New “ShieldView” Screen Protector Line.  The new Speck line is designed “to keep your device displays and touch screens looking clean and pristine.”  Speck has new protectors for the iPhone, iPad, Blackberry, “and more,” they tell us.  So if you’re looking to protect your iPad or other device, surf on over and check out their choices.  The ShieldView protectors vary in price depending on your device, from $9.95 (for the Blackberry) to $29.95 (iPad) for 3-packs.  Tell ‘em Gear Diary sent ya.

Grubby fingers and sharp, scratchy objects lurk around every corner, threatening to damage the delicate touch screen of your on-the-go electronic device. To the relief of mobile device owners everywhere, Speck announced today that it has developed ShieldView, a new line of state-of-the-art screen protectors available for today’s hottest gadgetry. ShieldView Screen Protectors join CrispView Screen Cleaning Kits in Speck’s expanding group of products aimed to keep your device displays and touch screens looking clean and pristine. “We understand that protecting the integrity and value of your on-the-go devices is of utmost importance, especially the screen’s appearance,” said Irene Baran, CEO of Speck. “We’ve designed our new ShieldView line to be virtually unnoticeable but highly protective.”

Designed and engineered for a perfect fit on iPad, iPhone 3G and 3GS, BlackBerry Bold 9700, Blackberry Storm2 9550, and 4.3-Inch Widescreen Portable GPS devices, ShieldView delivers a virtually invisible, durable layer of protection that stays smartly in place, never interfering with the functionality of your touch screen. Easy to apply and remove, ShieldView’s non-adhesive matte finish and specialized coatings reduce glare for optimal visibility and brightness while it protects screens from scratches and smudging. Available in packs of two for iPad and packs of three for all other devices, Shieldview is designed for quick and easy replacement as needed. ShieldView for smartphones and GPS devices is available for $9.95 and for the iPad, it’s $24.95. All ShieldView products come in re-sealable storage envelope packaging for added convenience and ShieldView for iPad also includes a screen cleaning cloth.

Doug is a nerd from way back, falling for a Commodore PET at the age of 15, and never looking back. Riding the nerd wave, he got a Computer Science degree and entered the tech industry at a young age, deciding after a year and a half of front-line phone technical support that he should try something, *anything* else. He settled on technical writing, and has been cranking out documentation for companies like Unisys, SGI, Cisco, Juniper, and many others ever since. The fact that he commutes between his family in Austin and his day job in California is something that he is simply trying to live with. (Isabelle the Corgi helps.)
