I usually turn the A70z off at night, just as I still do the digital photo frame, and during the day it's on just as if it were a regular desktop; if I leave I put it to sleep. So I think the power aspect is not too bad.
On the other hand, I really like your solution -- including creating a touchscreen! :-))

alese, I don’t think it is that power hungry at all. But on the other hand, I have something similar at home too. It's just a bit more "home made", and a bit cheaper.
I used my old EEE PC700 7" netbook, installed WinXP on it and connected it to an old 19" LCD screen. But since I wanted something "fancy", I also bought 19" Touch layer from E-bay and now I have touch enabled device, that functions as printer server for two printers that are connected to it, family information hub (I use Goolge Calendar to display family calendar and iGoogle page for weather and other stuff) and also as a software based Squeezebox music player for the room.
Of course it's also a picture frame - when screen saver is running.

Judie, isn’t this a bit power hungry for a digital picture frame, that will probably be on 24/7?

But on the other hand, I have something similar at home too.
