We all love buying new gear.  That’s why we’re here right?  But when is the last time you bought an amazing gadget and made a donation to a worthy charity at the same time? Camangi…After the Update

Posted on 08 April 2010

Camangi sent the updated Webstation back today, and there are some good improvements. It also looks like some things haven’t changed at all. Nevertheless, the Camangi Webstation is one of the only Android tablets that has managed to appear in the USA, so the question is: If you didn’t buy an iPad, and you’re holding out for something Android based, is the updated Camangi worth it? Let’s start with what didn’t happen. It didn’t get upgraded to a new version of Android, so it’s still stuck on 1.5. However, Camangi now claims that any future changes are user-upgradable. Hope the Webstation enjoyed its road trip!… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

We are all feeling the financial pinch!    Blue Plate Special is a weekly review of bargain apps for the iPhone and iPod Touch. Nothing over $.99. This week and next week are the craziest weeks of the spring for us as coaches.  I have four games and will work at two track meets and this year I add my son’s four t-ball games.  While I was on my weekly search for an app for the Blue Plate Special, I decided I wanted something fun and different.  The craziness of work made me not want to do something productive… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

So Apple… What’s The Deal With The Rest Of The iPad Apps???

Posted on 08 April 2010

Apple got off to a good great start with regard to the iPad section of the App Store last week. Apps like Pages and Keynote were as awesome as expected. Evernote, Dragon Dictation, Instapaper, Bento and even the Kindle app were updated to work on both the iPhone and iPad with the iPad versions often being far more than merely scaled-up versions of their smaller counterparts. Saturday night the Zinio iPad app was released. It was a great start and then… nothing. Seriously nothing. I haven’t seen anything new in the area new iPad-specific apps. I haven’t even seen any notifications regarding more apps that have been released in their universal binary versions. NOTHING… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

Gear Deal- Scottevest Soft Shell

Posted on 08 April 2010

Elana joked the other day that I have an SEV-only wardrobe these days. It isn’t far from the truth. Even when I’m not carrying gadgets with me I like wearing one of my SEV jackets. If asked to choose a favorite I would likely have to pick the Soft Shell that I reviewed a few months back. It is soft, comfortable and warm. And, as is the case with all SEV garments, hidden inside are a host of usable pockets. You can read the review here and then you can jump on over to the Scottevest website’s sale page where the Soft Shell is in sale for 20% off today only. That means the normally $175 jacket is… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

TOM BIHN Introduces New iPad Travel Bag

Posted on 08 April 2010

I love, love, love my iPad and have started bringing with me pretty much everywhere. That means it is more important than ever to protect it. Fortunately some of our favorite gadget bag and protection designers have been hard at work. Case in point– Tom Bihn has just announced a new iPad travel bag. The Co-Pilot… is a small, carry-on sized travel bag sized to fit the essentials – the items that you want close at hand and easily accessible during your flight. Better still is the fact that the iPad will fit inside it while it is protected in the Apple case or, I assume, a similarly sized protective… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

Eye-Fi Gets Better With New Eye-Fi Center

Posted on 08 April 2010

I’m a huge fan of Eye-Fi, the SD card with built-in wireless that lets you upload images and video without ever having to make a direct connection between your camera and your computer. I love knowing that whenever I take pictures they are immediately available in iPhoto on my iMac and in my Picasa account online. Early cards were slow and a bit buggy but the latest versions are fast and stable. Overall the weakest link in the system has been the Eye’Fi Manager software. It did the job but it was slow, had a poor UI and wasn’t enjoyable… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

Unlike its smaller sibling the iPhone the iPad gets awesome battery life. Still, you likely want to have an extra wall charger around and you definitely want a charger in the car.
