Gear Deal- HP ENVY 15 Core i5 15.6″ Laptop w/ 4GB RAM, 1080p Ultra BrightView 1GB Mobility Radeon HD 5830

Posted on 03 May 2010

If I were going back to Windows from OS X this would likely be the laptop I would get. The HP ENVY looks good and runs fast. It proves that Apple isn’t the only one who can make a sleek notebook. The specs are pretty impressive. According to our Gear Sponsor… This 1-inch thin, 5.18-pound laptop is powered by the Intel’s Core i5 / Core i7 processor, updated 1GB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5830 discrete graphics, USB 3.0 (on Core i7 + ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5830 units) and up to 16GB DDR3 memory. Its full metal case features a sleek, laser-etched metal design on the lid & palmrest. Other key features include Night Vision WebCamera, 320GB 7200RPM Hard Continue reading on Gear Diary …

GearGames Weekly: May 2 – 8

Posted on 02 May 2010

Welcome back to the GearGames weekly video game release feature here at Gear Diary! What can we say about a week where the biggest games are a movie tie-in for a movie already getting lousy reviews, and a add-on DLC already released to very mixed reviews on another platform? Not too much … but fortunately Iron Man 2 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 – Stimulus Package are not the highlights of the week! The two most interesting releases are Fat Princess: Fistful of Cakefor the PSP and Dementium II for both the DS. Unfortunately the highly anticipated Fat Princess: Fistful of Cake is lacking something in the PSP incarnation, but at least the… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

An Eye-Fi Connect X2 Card Would Make the Perfect Mother’s Day Gift

Posted on 02 May 2010

This contest is now closed and the winner is Edmund Ng. Thank you to all who participated; please watch for more giveaways from Gear Diary! This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of Eye-Fi. All opinions are 100% mine. There were certain key stylistic elements that I knew I wanted Gear Diary to have when I first started it. I knew I wanted this to be a general site that covered any and all gear; we do. I knew that I wanted a tech site that was accessible to everyone, which meant we would do our best to avoid jargon; we do our best. And I… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

GelaSkins for iPad – Review

Posted on 02 May 2010

The iPad needs protection. It is big. It is beautiful. And it will get knocked around and scratched up if you aren’t careful. So yes, the iPad needs protection. Larry has this down to a science. When his iPad 3G came on Friday he didn’t open it. Instead he hopped in the car and drove to the mall near him to have a Clear Coat put on the device. Half an hour later his iPad was wrapped in a clear protective layer that ensures his device will be unmarred for months to come. The WiFi version of the iPad that I bought last month has a Clear Coat on it that I installed, and I am… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

Apple 3G iPad on EDGE Using a T-Mobile SIM? Here’s How …

Posted on 02 May 2010

If you were grandfathered into a low-priced T-Mobile data plan (remember the $5.99/month deal?), if you don’t mind EDGE speeds, and if don’t want to pay an extra $30/month to use the AT&T iPad data plan, this DIY hack may be just what you have been looking for. Granted, you won’t be able to pop your T-Mo SIM back into your phone, but why let that stop you? iPadInsider has posted a DIY hack that they say will make your T-Mobile SIM work on your Apple iPad … DISCLAIMER: We have not tested this, so this information may be inaccurate or incomplete. iPadInsider.com will not be responsible for individuals Continue reading on Gear Diary …

Support Breast Cancer Research and Protect Your Blackberry with Otterbox

Posted on 02 May 2010

I’m a sucker for causes, and in particular causes that are attempting to alleviate pain and suffering.  Like, when I bought my daughter an iPod for Channukah one year, I got the “Red Product” one, so part of the money would go to help fight AIDS in Africa. So I’m glad to give y’all a pointer to the new OtterBox “Strength” Cases for Blackberrys (or is it “Blackberries?”).  OtterBox “will donate 10 percent of the purchase price from each case to the Avon Breast Cancer Crusade to support research to find a cure for breast cancer and programs that provide access to breast health care, regardless of a person’s ability to pay.”  So if you need… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

It’s Mother’s Day Tech-Time… Even If Mom Doesn’t Remember Who You Are…

Posted on 01 May 2010

Mother’s Day is on the way in the USA. Many of you have already made your plans and picked out your gifts but there are some of us who need that last-minute gift that says just the right thing… So what to get mom so you don’t see her empty-handed?? Cards are good. (Not those silly ones that poke fun or let animals do the talking but the ones that express true gratitude and love.) Candy is better. (Didn’t mom ever tell you??? Chocolate goes well with everything.) But nothing, NOTHING says “Mom, I love and appreciate you” like some good Continue reading on Gear Diary …

“My Brand New 3G iPad is Scratched!!!!!!”

Posted on 01 May 2010

I’m honestly not sure if I should laugh or cry. My Uncle, bless his heart, is a bit of a wanna-be techie.  He’s always getting the latest and greatest gadgets, mostly because he sees me doing so.  Over the last few years I’ve begun converting him to Apple’s line up of products.  It started with the iPhone 3G, then the 3Gs and then an iMac.  He’s also from another generation, and while he’s embracing technology often he needs his hand held when using it.  Like many of you probably are I’m the “go-to” technology expert for my friends and family and my Uncle, more than anyone turns to me when he needs help.… Continue reading on Gear Diary …
