Amp Music Player for the iPhone

Carly (our eBook/eReader maven) and I often talk about which eBook reading software we prefer, and for what reasons.  I’m a big fan of the Barnes and Noble eReader software–the interface is clean, it’s fully-featured, and (for me) best of all there’s the capability to highlight text and look it up in WikiPedia.  Carly likes the B&N feature set, but since most of her books are in the Kindle format, she usually uses that.

Well, there are some pretty slick music apps out there now, too, that give you significant “value add” (as we say in the tech biz).  I love Shazam, for example, which gives you the capability to just hold your iPhone up to a speaker (or wave it in the air, for that matter) and it tells you what song it’s being exposed to.  And now there’s another value-add music player app called Amp Music, by Vicious Dericious LLC, available for my favorite price (Free!) on iTunes, which gives you queueing, playlists, skins, concerts, and (be still my foolish heart!) WikiPedia, in addition to all the usual music app goodness.  I haven’t tried it out personally, but I’m telling you, the price (Free!) and the WikiPedia functionality have already caused me to download it.  So maybe you should give it a try, too, neh?

Full information below.

Released on Monday, Amp Music Player (free) is climbing the App Store charts and shows no signs of stopping. Currently the #6 top free music app and #136 top free overall, it has only to surpass cornerstone apps like Shazam, Pandora, and Soundhound — it is already far ahead of it’s closest competitor, TuneWiki. Amp was created for a school project by two recent University of Michigan graduates.

Voted best app by the class, Amp easily cleaned house and won it’s creators an iPad. Andy Lin and Ray Lillywhite are now Vicious Dericious LLC, an indy dev studio based in San Francisco. Amp Music Player gives you complete music control. Queue upcoming songs, create unlimited playlists, watch music videos from your favorite artists and much more…  Amp Music Player is a free download on the iTunes App Store: http://bit.ly/AmpMusic http://viciousdericious.com

Doug is a nerd from way back, falling for a Commodore PET at the age of 15, and never looking back. Riding the nerd wave, he got a Computer Science degree and entered the tech industry at a young age, deciding after a year and a half of front-line phone technical support that he should try something, *anything* else. He settled on technical writing, and has been cranking out documentation for companies like Unisys, SGI, Cisco, Juniper, and many others ever since. The fact that he commutes between his family in Austin and his day job in California is something that he is simply trying to live with. (Isabelle the Corgi helps.)
