Just in time for summer the fight for iPhone GPS domination just heated up… a lot.

CoPilot just released CoPilot Live USA, a full-featured, voice-guided GPS navigation app for iPhones and it costs just $4.99 for lifetime use. The app is network independent thanks to the fact that its maps are stored directly on the iPhone. And it isn’t a stripped-down GPS app. No, it includes advanced navigation features such as integrated Live Local Search, 3D and 2D maps, Lane Assist arrows, multi-stop trip planning and more.

The app will even be able to take advantage of ALK’s monthly map updates and quarterly release of entirely new map bundles.

At $4.99 the app is a bargain but if you want additional features, like text-to-voice navigation and live traffic you’ll have to make additional purchases through the “in-app” purchase system. You can grab the app HERE.

COPILOT® LIVE™ USA: PREMIUM GPS NAVIGATION FOR IPHONE LAUNCHES AT $4.99

Princeton, NJ, June 6, 2010–To kick off the summer travel season, ALK Technologies is introducing CoPilot Live USA, a full-featured, voice-guided GPS navigation app for iPhones at the amazingly low price of $4.99 for lifetime use.
This introductory price is a breakthrough for premium quality turn-by-turn navigation – costing less than most paper-based maps or even a couple gallons of gas! CoPilot Live USA includes detailed digital street-level maps stored directly on the iPhone so there’s no need to rely on the mobile network for navigation. The app is packed with advanced navigation features including integrated Live Local Search, 3D and 2D maps, Lane Assist arrows, multi-stop trip planning and more.

Customers also have access to the free ALK® MapSure™ service, a feature exclusive to all the brand’s customers that provides monthly map improvement updates downloaded directly to the iPhone and a complete new updated map of USA every quarter, through the end of the year.

“Some of the 222 billion miles Americans drove in 2009 were due to getting lost which, with gas prices up almost 13 percent since last year, adds up and affects people planning staycations and vacations in the current economy,” said Michael Kornhauser, Managing Director at ALK Technologies. “At this introductory price we are making premium-quality GPS navigation affordable to all, so there’s simply no need for any iPhone user to lose their way again.”
CoPilot Live USA is available in the iPhone App Store at the introductory price for unlimited use. Customers can enhance their GPS system through in-app purchases, including Live Traffic and Live Fuel Prices for $19.99, lifetime Text-to-Speech voice navigation for $2.99 and Canadian maps for $15.99.

Having a father who was heavily involved in early laser and fiber-optical research, Dan grew up surrounded by technology and gadgets. Dan’s father brought home one of the very first video games when he was young and Dan remembers seeing a “pre-release” touchtone phone. (When he asked his father what the “#” and “*” buttons were his dad said, “Some day, far in the future, we’ll have some use for them.”) Technology seemed to be in Dan’s blood but at some point he took a different path and ended up in the clergy. His passion for technology and gadgets never left him. +Dan Cohen
