Welcome back to the GearGames weekly video game release feature here at Gear Diary! By the middle of this week all of the kids should be back in schools from preschools to post-docs … which of course means it is a great time to roll out more and more high-profile games. There are several big releases, but my choice for the week is the PSP game Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep, a game that caused me to lambaste Sony again about the lack of a PSN version.
Another solid-looking release is the new Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions franchise entry, as well as the highly anticipated strategy game R.U.S.E. and the sequel to the solid Tom Clancy’s HAWX 2.
There is also a DLC for Mass Effect 2 called Mass Effect 2: Lair of the Shadow Broker that serves as a bridging element between Mass Effect 2 and 3, though at $10 it is rather expensive for DLC!
Finally there is the release of the survival horror game Amnesia: The Dark Descent which has gotten decent early press and will hopefully live up to expectations. And there are a few other releases this week – read on to find out!

Some notes from last week:
- Valkyria Chronicles II
- Metroid: Other M
- Ace Combat: Joint Assault
- Deep, fun and highly rewarding, this PSP follow-up to the PS3 game (which in itself gets many gamers steamed!) is a blast!
- It has too much story and too little action in the early parts, but once it gets going it is quite a fun game.
- Ambitious, but limited by the controls and hardware of the PSP, and ultimately ends up feeling like playing the same thing over and again!
What games am I playing now? Here is a sampling:
- PC: Elemental: War of Magic – only just got the latest update … but honestly there is still loads of polish needed and some pretty fundamental fixes needed. The more I play the more broken I find this game.
- PSP: Valkyria Chronicles II – sequel to the PS3 game is deep and engaging and loads of fun!
- DS: Again – from the Hotel Dusk developers, an interesting adventure that isn’t living up to my expectations.
So what are you playing? Chime in below!
Enjoy gaming!
