Welcome back to the GearGames weekly video game release feature here at Gear Diary! Following on last week’s mammoth launch of Halo: Reach, this week we have a major PC launch – Civilization V, the follow on to the fourth entry to the massively successful turn-based strategy game franchise from 2005.
The other game struggling for my time is yet another sequel, Etrian Odyssey III: The Drowned City for the DS. The first two were brutally difficult and forced you to draw your own maps, and were loads of fun.
The PC strategy simulation Patrician IV ended up with a delay and is supposed to launch this week, along with the PC version of Darksiders, and the XBOX version of Serious Sam HD: The Second Encounter. And there are a few other releases this week – read on to find out!

- Serious Sam HD: The Second Encounter
- F1 2010
- DeathSpank: Thongs of Virtue

- F1 2010

- Gormiti: The Lords of Nature!

- Cladun: This is an RPG

- Etrian Odyssey III: The Drowned City

- Gormiti: The Lords of Nature!

- Sid Meier’s Civilization V
- Patrician IV
- Darksiders
- F1 2010
- Painkiller: Pandemonium
- World Golf 2011
Some notes from last week:
- Halo: Reach
- Flight Control HD
- Phantasy Star Portable 2
- Professor Layton and the Unwound Future
- Dawn of Heroes
- The Lord of the Rings: Aragorn’s Quest
- Despite more than a few criticisms, most folks really love this game.
- Solid game, but really is more of a portable game (i.e. iPod Touch) than a console game.
- Better than the first – though that was a low bar – PSP2 offers a huge amount of content and plenty to do!
- Continues the excellent franchise with another must-have entry!
- Was the long wait worth it? Sort of, as this is a fun game but decidedly average and unoriginal.
- Some fun but overall a solidly average experience.
What games am I playing now? Here is a sampling:
- PC: King’s Bounty: Crossworlds – just digging into this massive new expansion to one of the best games of 2008!
- PSP: Valkyria Chronicles II – that is the thing with huge games like this – it takes forever to finish!
- PSP: Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep – I hate having to use the UMD … but love the game!
So what are you playing? Chime in below!
Enjoy gaming!
