Putting up decals all over a wall – and not one for little kids. A couple of years ago I would have thought ‘what adult with a social life would do this?’, but since moving into a much larger house where I have a dedicated area for all of my music and video games and gadgets and other geeky pursuits, and having my wife put together a collage of photos and newspaper articles from my old band to occupy a large chunk of wall, I could totally see someone doing this! Here is the basic product info from ThinkGeek: In the beginning, there was Atari… * Vinyl peel and stick wall decals * Make Continue reading on Gear Diary …

We’ve reviewed a few of Thinksound’s offerings before and found them to be amongst the best when it comes to good sounding, good fitting and good looking in-ear headphones. But that’s not all…. Thinksound headphones are assembled primarily from renewable, recyclable resources like wood and aluminum, and feature PVC-free cables. The packaging is made from bleach-free recycled cardboard and eliminates the common plastic pieces normally associated with headphone packaging. The company has just announced its newest release, the ts02+ mic, a 8mm high-definition headphone with integrated microphone and call control. The headphone will be compatible with the iPhone, iPad, and most Blackberry models and smart… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

Imagine a world in which the mythical creatures of the middle age mythology – elves, orcs, etc – were real, and that magic existed. Now imagine it is the 1880′s and the industrial revolution in in full swing, but causing a conflict with the worlds of magic and knights of honor. That is the setting of Arcanum, and you are the hero. And that is the premise of the first game from Troika Studios. Troika Studios is worth mentioning alongside their games more than just about any other developer: the studio was formed by three people who left Interplay after completing the game design for Fallout 2 and being unable to come to an agreement… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

While Dan, Judie and I LOVED the design of the Element Vapor Case for the iPhone 4 we weren’t thrilled with what it did to our iPhones’ reception. That aside, there’s no denying the company has created some super slick looking accessories for both the iPad and the iPhone. Element has just announced a new line of cases for the iPhone 3G/3Gs and iPhone 4 and once again their designs haven’t disappointed. The Carbon Fiber Line, featuring the Formula and Ion cases is available now in extremely limited quantities for iPhone 3GS, and will released in October for iPhone 4. Both cases cases meld highly shock-absorbent design with the moto-style… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

You know how you can see the most gorgeous ball gown on a hanger, and while you’re able to appreciate the materials used and the workmanship that went into the garment, there’s just no way to know how fabulous it could look until you finally put it on? That’s kind of how I felt when I opened a package containing prototypes of the two new Fall 2010 SCOTTEVEST women’s products — the Lightweight Vest (in a large) and the Go2 Jacket (in medium). I received a box containing both products in early July. I was told up front that the garments I received weren’t 100% finished, and that there… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

I know that you all have been chomping at the bit to get more info on the upcoming SCOTTEVEST Men’s Fall coats, and guess what? In July I received a box full of them! I only had a few days to check them out and try them on, but that was long enough to know that this will not only be a very good fall season for women who have been waiting for their new SeV styles, it will be a very good SeV season for men as well. The designs that I received were just about finalized, but there is a chance there might be a few minor changes before their release… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

I’ve spent today with Daniel Lim (SlashGear); Andru Edwards (Gear Live), Jon Westfall (Android Thoughts), Steven Hughes (BHighlyMobile & Boston Pocket PC), Brad Sams (Neowin), at the Cedar Park, Texas location of ETS Lindgren. I’ll have a full article about the things we saw and what I learned about this fascinating company a little bit later, but I couldn’t wait to tell you about an experiment they conducted for me. As you may recall, Larry, Dan & I recently reviewed the Element Case Vapor 4. All of us agreed that it was easily one of the most beautiful… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

A couple of weeks ago we were back-to-school shopping for our kids, and when looking at shoes we were concerned because my older son was outgrowing his size 13′s … meaning he was looking at the world of special orders, high prices and terrible selections. But as we discovered, the brand he owned tended to run small so he was able to grab a size 13 in another brand and was all set! Of course, we have all run into this before – one brand fits differently in different areas than another brand, so according to our various body shapes we tailor our shopping habits to certain stores and brands. Sometimes we find a sale… Continue reading on Gear Diary …
