Proof of How Deeply Tablets Have Already Penetrated…

Posted on 19 November 2010

My friend David just pointed me toward some of the best proof of just how deeply tablets have already penetrated. (Or should I say… TABLET… singular) Take a look at this shot form the New York Times homepage… see something funny? Yes, as David pointed out the text says TAP not CLICK. TAP as in on an iPad… TAP as in TAP using the Livescribe Paper Tablet. TAP as in… I don’t need no stinking mouse… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

Bolle Releases BP-10: World’s First iPhone Photo Printer

Posted on 19 November 2010

The Bolle BP-10 stakes its claim as the world’s first iPhone specific printer.  The BP-10 allows the user to place his/her iPhone in the printer’s dock and then select one of his/her photographs to print directly from the Bolle Photo application (which must be downloaded and installed separately.) The printer then spits out quality 4×6 prints and your iPhone even gets re-charged while it’s docked.  You can choose to print more than one copy or even set up partitions so that you create a photographic collage all on one page. The BP-10 is available from Mobile Fun for £119.99 ($191.55 at the time of this post).… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

Abernathy Road, for a Different Type of Phone Case

Posted on 19 November 2010

It’s pretty easy to find rubber, plastic and lesser-grade leather cases for most phones, but when looking for an accessory that makes a statement, one that would make a fantastic gift for yourself or a loved one, the choices immediately narrow. While searching for a unique leather belt, I stumbled across Abernathy Road, a Nashville Tennessee business which offers items “for the Road Less Traveled.  Ranch, Range, and Roughwear for those looking to find their own way, pave their own path, follow their own direction.” While I have indeed found the belt that I’m going to purchase, I have also found something else — mobile phone… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

Why Is Apple Letting the iPad Sell at TJ Maxx and Marshalls for $100 Less?

Posted on 19 November 2010

Word came last night that the 16GB WiFi iPad would be available in limited quantities at TJ Maxx and Marshalls. At first many of us assumed it would be a refurb. Even still, $399 would be a full $50 less than Apple sells refurbs so it would be an awesome deal. Now it seems that the units coming to the stores are new. New iPads for $100 less than they cost at Apple? or Best Buy? How can that be? Seth Weintraub over on 9 to 5 Mac Apple Intelligence has an interesting post on… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

Isabella Products Announces World’s First Connected Children’s Tablet

Posted on 19 November 2010

I don’t know how it works at your house, but with my kids the following conversation takes place with depressing regularity: “Papa, can I use your iPad?” “I’m using it right now, Joseph?” “After you’re done can I use it?” “Yes, in a while.”  [sighing heavily, because Joseph is a human demonstration of the Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle--you never know where he's going to end up, and in what state] Now, Joseph has reached an age where he’s somewhat more responsible, and so I don’t worry so much about him swatting flies with the iPad, or using it as a serving tray for his PB&J and (lactose-free) chocolate milk.  But still, back in the day… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

Posted on 19 November 2010

Okay, so I’m a little behind the curve in notifying you folks about this, but it honestly sounded so cool that I figured that this was one of those “Better late than never”.  Especially these days, with so much content available online after the fact, eh? Planet Green is beginning a new TV series.  Rather than simply rephrase, I’ll let the Dean of Invention guys tell you what it’s about: Planet Green has a new series called Dean of Invention, hosted by Dean Kamen, a man with 400+ patents, who invented the Segway, the “Luke arm” (a prosthetic limb affectionately named after Luke Skywalker) and more. Music Diary Notes: Help Jason Parker Realize His Nick Drake Tribute Project

Posted on 18 November 2010

If you have never heard of British singer/songwriter Nick Drake, it is because he maintained a very low profile, releasing three albums before dying at the young age of 26. Yet over the last 35 years his amazing talent has been realized more and more and he is now seen as one of the most influential British singer-songwriters of the last half century. I have always been a vocal supporter of the Jason Parker Quartet, and not just because I like their music! Jason Parker uses technology in a very intelligent and cooperative way to work with his audience and grow his listener base. His ‘pay what you want’… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

iPad Accessory Review- Mophie workbook

Posted on 18 November 2010

I love Mophie’s products. Their batteries are among the best designed and most useful I have found. Last year at CES, the Mopie juicepack air saved us over and over and over when our iPhone batteries wore down as they searched for a signal on AT&T’s network. Now Mophie has extended their line to include their first ever case… the Mophie workbook. I’ve had one here for the last couple of weeks and really like the design. It takes all of the best features of other portfolio-style iPad cases and adds its own twist that makes the workbook unique. Here’s a look… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

OnLive Seeks to Disrupt the Console World With Set-Top Box

Posted on 18 November 2010

I already reviewed the OnLive service here a few months back, and while I still use it on occasion it has taken a back seat to the fall release flood. Since the service was first introduced, the company was clear in its vision: get it going for the PC (and Mac) first, then over WiFi, then roll out the set-top console-like device. Well, as I noted the PC and Mac client works great, WiFi is an ever-improving work in progress … and now OnLive is ready to launch their new box on December 2nd and has just opened up pre-orders. Here is the email I received this morning: Introducing the OnLive Continue reading on Gear Diary …
