One of the big boons of the Industrial Revolution was that many products that, before then, required many tedious, laborious, and expensive hours being made by hand could now be done quickly, cheaply, and easily by machine.  Goods that were out of the reach of the vast majority of the populace suddenly were affordable.

Yup, it led to decades–even centuries–of upheaval as people who used to be coopers or hatters or weavers or what-not suddenly couldn’t compete.  But since then–more often recently, it seems to me–a lot of people have both embraced the artisan culture, looking to it both for new and more unusual handmade products–in everything from bread to beer to gear bags–as well as a place to focus their own artistic energies.

Into that niche comes Ezcapes, makers of hand-crafted iPhone cases.  These cases are more unique than your typical mass-produced jobs, and if that strikes your fancy, maybe you should surf over to their web site and enjoy the fruits of the millenniums-old handmade culture.

Doug is a nerd from way back, falling for a Commodore PET at the age of 15, and never looking back. Riding the nerd wave, he got a Computer Science degree and entered the tech industry at a young age, deciding after a year and a half of front-line phone technical support that he should try something, *anything* else. He settled on technical writing, and has been cranking out documentation for companies like Unisys, SGI, Cisco, Juniper, and many others ever since. The fact that he commutes between his family in Austin and his day job in California is something that he is simply trying to live with. (Isabelle the Corgi helps.)
