I am a huge fan of Sena’s gorgeous leather cases and have used them on pretty much every device I have owned going back many years. The reason for this is quite simple. Sena consistently uses the best materials, consistently constructs them with the greatest of care and consistently brings new designs to market that are visually interesting but also take into account that most of us actually USE the devices we want to protect. In other words, time and again, Sena seems to be able to strike the right balance between interesting style and practical use. Add in the fact that their catalogue is quite extensive and includes a wide range of devices… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

The weekend is finally here and once again the digital download sites are featuring some awesome deals! I am highlighting the Activision RPG sale at Good Old Games – it is only a 30% off deal, but includes some essential games and also includes The Witcher at 50% off for $4.99! This week I am continuing to choose no more than 50 deals from all sites … which is an extra tough one because GamersGate ALONE had more games than that at 70% off! And as always thanks to the crew at Deals4Downloads for their help finding everything. Now let’s get straight to the deals! Good Old Games: Weekend Continue reading on Gear Diary …

There was a much publicized scratched attempt to fly across the Grand Canyon using a Jetpack this week, but then Yves “Jetman” Rossy took to the air unannounced a day later and in a location without press coverage! Therefor all coverage was done by Rossy’s team. As noted here: Some speculate that he is just a stunt performer who emerges for publicity and cash then disappears. Others disagree saying Rossy pushes for advancement and inspires the future vision of human flight. Either way, the crowd and media had their fill of chills and thrills watching Rossy’s spectacular flight. It had to have been on video since no journalists saw the live event in Continue reading on Gear Diary …

This week we have heard precious little from Sony on where things are going with PSN and Qriocity other than they need more time, something I highlighted in my post on Tuesday. But the rest of the world isn’t sitting still while Sony is dealing with this crisis. Michael Siebenaler noted that Sony may awaken to find a changed world. Goozex has made trades free for past traders to recognize the hassles PSN users are dealing with. Yesterday we found out about a leaked letter Sony had sent to publishing partners, part of which said: As of this writing, there remains no evidence that the credit card Continue reading on Gear Diary …

When you look at the image above … does something look wrong? I sure hope so! The picture shows the outcome of Hamilton College student Lisa Slayen’s project to show what a Barbie doll scaled to life-size would look like in terms of proportions. From the article: Life-size Barbie stands about 6 feet tall with a 39″ bust, 18″ waist and 33″ hips. She is made of wood, chicken wire and papier-mache, and is dressed in a size 00 skirt that was a remnant from Slayen’s one-year bout with anorexia. “I’m not blaming Barbie [for my illness] — she’s one small factor, an environmental factor,” Slayen said. “I’m blond Continue reading on Gear Diary …

When I first got my iPhone4, I chose a set of screen protectors for it that I was familiar with from using on my 3GS. One issue I had with both was how difficult it was to install totally bubble-free. Another issue is the glare and that sometimes my finger would not glide smoothly across the screen. Moshi has come to my rescue. Their new iVisor AG for the iPhone4 is a knockout. When I first received an email from the company handling PR for them I scoffed. Bubble-free, yeah right. First, I love the company name. Moshi. Don’t know why, I just do. Second, and the important point to be… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

Defining Our Terms The mention of the word “tablet” to most people today would conjure up an image of an iPad or a similar looking product. What they may not know is that the tablet has already been in existence for roughly a decade. The original tablet PC was Microsoft’s vision of a mobile computer that maximized productivity. It was a laptop with a swivel screen that allowed you to write on it. The term used for it describes it well, they called it a convertible-tablet PC. I believe they had some good ideas and it can be seen in today’s technology. The tablet PCs of today are obviously much more… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

How would you like to open your beer and soda bottles without having to worry about where those pointy bottle caps land? The ‘Click n Drink’ bottle opener allows you to do just that. Boasting the ability to hold up to 100 bottle caps with its strong magnets, the ‘Click n Drink’ magnetically mounts to metal surfaces or it can be drilled into others. I’m wondering if it would void our hot tub’s warranty to screw one to its side; if it means being able to pop a bottle of Spaten without worrying about stepping on a cap later, I think it might be worth it! One of the greatest things about eBook readers is how accessibility is in their nature. When I worked at Borders, people were always seeking large-print titles, but relatively speaking we carried far fewer large prints than regular titles. With an eBook reader like the Kindle, any book is a large print thanks to adjustable font sizes! However, a Kindle can be tough to hold if you have any dexterity or coordination problems. It’s thin, the page turn buttons require some force to activate, and while it doesn’t weigh much it can still be a strain over a long period of time. That’s what makes Origin Instruments new devices so great. They’re not cheap, and they’re not designed… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

I do a tremendous amount of writing using voice recognition and if there is one thing that makes or breaks the accuracy is the microphone you use. Both my iPhone and my iPad do fine on their own but I do see a significant improvement when I use a high quality headset. That’s why I was interested in the i-Microphone. It is a small attachments that promises good audio recording without the hassle of a wides headset. It isn’t expensive so I thought I might order one and check it out. Fortunately the company was kind enough to send along a review sample instead and I have been using it for a few weeks now Here’s… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

I like typing on my iPad’s screen. There, I wrote it, again. I… like… using… a… virtual… keyboard! (And surprisingly my mom, who got an iPad from her awesome kids two weeks ago! likes typing on the screen too!) We are not, however, the norm. No, it seems that, given the choice, most people will still choose to use a keyboard that is actually not a sheet of glass. If you are one such person this product may be for you. The Scosche freeKey is a flexible, water-resistant Bluetooth keyboard that can go just about anywhere with you… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

If you spend a fair bit of time in the car, it makes sense to have a car charger for your electronic devices. I know I have always kept one handy for my iPhone, since topping off my iPhone when I drive from place to place is always useful — especially on long days when my iPhone would otherwise NEVER make it through the day. Things became a bit more complicated when the iPad was released, since it requires a 10w charger, and most of the previous adapters aren’t up to the task. XtremeMac has rolled out a few car chargers that solve this and work with the iPhone, iPod touch AND the… Continue reading on Gear Diary …
