Sonos Issues Mac OS X ‘Lion’ Compatibility Warning – Don’t Upgrade Yet!!

Posted on 21 July 2011

Yesterday Michael brought word that Livescribe’s Mac desktop software is not currently compatible with Mac OS X Lion. In other words, if you rely on Livescribe don’t upgrade to OS X Lion. This isn’t a surprise or even an issue since there are always small bumps along the way whenever new operating systems come out.  Issues emerge and, within a short period of time, are resolved. This time is no different. I just got word that the same holds true for Sonos’ Mac Controller. It too is not currently compatible with Mac OS X Lion. I’ve been using Lion for a few weeks now and love it but had not noticed this issue… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

Music Diary Songs of Note: 20 Years of Pearl Jam’s ‘Ten’

Posted on 21 July 2011

Saying that the summer of 1991 was the dawn of a new era in rock music might sound like hyperbole, but when you look at how Nirvana, Alice in Chains, Soundgarden and Pearl Jam burst out of Seattle to topple the corporate hair-metal that continued to dominate after the close of the 80′s … it all seems clear. Nirvana was the clear ‘poster child’ for the grunge and alt-rock movement, with Nevermind being the touchstone moment when the music went from local hit to nationwide phenomenon in a matter of weeks. But just before Nevermind, another Seattle group – Pearl Jam – released their own epic album “Ten”, that would go on to… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

Let the WP7 ‘Mango’ Feature Cutting Begin: No In-App Purchases

Posted on 21 July 2011

When Windows Phone 7 launched a year ago, it had lost several features from when it was announced. Those features were promised within a month … and ended up coming within 6 months via the disastrous ‘minor update’ and later NoDo update. I say disastrous since it was rolled out slowly yet bricked devices, failed installs, was pulled and relaunched several times, and just overall was worse than any update of a modern mobile OS (webOS, iOS, Android) in recent years. Of course, many features didn’t that update and were promised for the Windows Phone 7.5 update known as ‘Mango’. The core features Mango will bring include Multitasking, Internet Explorer 9… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

Quick Google Tip: Multiple Account Sign-in

Posted on 21 July 2011

Several months ago, Gear Diary’s email switched to Google Apps. As a result, I learned about a pretty neat Google trick — multiple account sign-in. Effectively, it lets me be logged in at my primary email address on one tab and have my Gear Diary email opened and signed in on a separate tab. Helpful, but not earth shattering. However, in the last few weeks, I’ve had two different people flip out with excitement when I taught them this trick, mainly because their schools and businesses have switched to Google Apps. Both of them thought they were stuck signing in and out of accounts, or giving up their Gmail accounts. One of them thanked me on Facebook, and… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

Posted on 21 July 2011

If you’ve been watching any of the Tour de France, you’ll know that this cruiser is the antithesis of all those bikes … four low-profile tires on a custom frame that’s been built from scratch make for a bike that will turn heads and empty the pocketbooks of twelve lucky owners. Each Epitaph features a custom crafted wheel set that allows us to mount a total of 4 low profile tires. Star Wars Lost Tribes of the Sith Book #7 Released for Free!

Posted on 20 July 2011

A couple of weeks ago I highlighted that the first six Lost Tribes of the Sith ebooks were available on the Amazon Kindle for free. As was noted, these books were ALWAYS free, as they were more set up as tie-ins to the core Fate of the Jedi series. Regardless, it is a great deal for some decent Star Wars books, and now the 7th book in the series has been released – also for free! Here is the description: When the Sith ship Omen crash-landed on Kesh two thousand years ago, the crew encountered native barbarism and superstition. Now a violent millennium has reduced the Continue reading on Gear Diary …

The new Waterfield Smart Case for MacBook Air is a simple but effective sleeve for both the 11″ and 13″ MBA. It features the company’s excellent build-quality along with a style that belies its hardcore protective features.
