You, my good sir or madam, need a new game. (I don’t; I just need an update to Infinity Blade–hopefully one that will let you backtrace, so you don’t always have to go around in circle. Oh, and an iPad version of Myst and/or Riven, preferably Riven. And maybe an iOS version of BioShock. But I don’t need any more! Well, maybe just one or two . . .) I may have mentioned before that it pleases me when we see Competition™, because Competition is Good®. And G5 Entertainment is firmly grasping the competition nettle, with today’s evidence being the new availability of Paranormal Agency on Android. Paranormal Agency is your typical, well-rendered, find-objects-and-solve-mystery game, which… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

If you are a Facebook junkie who can’t go for even five minutes without checking in, then I may have found the perfect phone for you. HTC recently brought one their two Facebook-integrated phones to the US; somewhere along the way, the device formerly known as the ChaCha became the Status. You may remember that the ChaCha was the candy-bar style Android phone with full QWERTY keyboard that so impressed me at Mobile World Congress — mainly because its keyboard blew away the one on the BlackBerry Bold I was using while traveling. the phone formerly known Continue reading on Gear Diary …

photos by Kevin In recent years we have seen a proliferation of on-ear and over-the-ear headphones priced in the $200-$300 range. There are, of course, the Beats by Dr Dre. They are joined by the likes of the Denon AH-D 1100 headphones (reviewed here), the Bowers & Wilkins (B&W) P5 Mobile Hi-Fi Headphones (reviewed here), the V-Moda Crossfades (reviewed here) and many more. Is there room for yet another pair of headphones in the mix, let alone from a company that is known for its Bluetooth devices rather than wired-audio? That’s the question faced by BlueAnt with the release of their EMBRACE wired on-ear headphones. How do they hold up… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

I have recently had the pleasure of working with Adobe as an Educational Influencer, learning about Adobe Creative Suite 5.5. Adobe has assembled a large number of teachers, students and techies to learn and provide feedback on the use of the Creative Suite family in education. Adobe CS 5.5 is a collection of high-powered tools to create and work with mobile, video, print and online media. As a teacher, it is important to continually gain knowledge on today’s learners as well as the technologies available to reach these students. Through the Adobe Education Exchange, the company is running a contest for members who present the most innovative teaching and learning materials. Prizes… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

I hate being predictable. I hate being statistic. But Telenav’s new survey basically suggests that I, and I suspect many of you, fall right in line with the data when it comes to out smartphone dependence (read: addiction). The question asked in the survey was, “How willing are you to give up… your smartphone, coffee, shoes etc.”. For example, 54% of all respondents would be more willing to give up exercise for a week than their mobile phone. 55% of respondents would be more willing to give up caffeine for a week than their mobile phone, 63% would be more willing to give up chocolate 70% would be willing to forego Continue reading on Gear Diary …

Since I am in and out of our family vehicles as well as other places I would like to use a Bluetooth speaker phone, I have put off purchasing a hands free system for my truck. What I need is a bluetooth option that works great and is mobile. Soundmatters is now offering a hi-fi bluetooth speaker that can be mounted in a car or even on a bicycle. The speaker is small enough to fit in a pocket and boasts improved sound as good as a wired connection. Great for both phone calls as well as listening to A2DP audio.
