Food Sanitation Just Got a Lot Easier with the CleanCut Touchless Automatic Towel Dispenser

Posted on 26 August 2011

A few years ago Elana trained as a chef at the Natural Gourmet Cooking School. One of the most important lessons she learned had to do with food sanitation. (She’s a nut about it which is a good thing. She also once commented that “If you knew what went on in some restaurant kitchens you would never eat out again.”) It is important to keep kitchen surfaces as clean as possible and that means, in part, using paper towels to ensure that all surfaces touched by raw food are sprayed and cleaned on a regular basis. To ensure this happen, on any given day you might see five or ten sheets of paper towel already torn… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

“Dirty Screen?” “Fabulous!” Qmadix Announces Smudge-Free Dry-Foam Cleaning Kit

Posted on 26 August 2011

I love this series of commercials. (And I like Orbit gum quite a bit too.) I also like this new screen cleaning system from Qmadix since my iPad screen needs all the help it can get. The new Smudge-Free Dry-Foam Cleaning Kit is a completely safe and eco-friendly way to clean any personal electronic device or accessory. The included DuraBan-treated micro-fiber cloths are anti-microbial, meaning they will continue to kill more than 99% of germs and bacteria after use. They can even be washed up to 50 times without losing their anti-microbial properties. The system safely cleans mobile and household electronics, leaves no residue or streaks behind and has a clean scent. The micro-fiber… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

Retro Game Fun: Grab Frogger as the Amazon AppStore for Android Free App Today!

Posted on 26 August 2011

We were recently discussing how many of us still hit up the Amazon Appstore and check out the free daily app. Most of us check things out fairly regularly, but the frequency of actually GETTING anything seems to have dropped. Well, for me anyway, that changed today – Frogger is the free app of the day! From Video Game History: Frogger is an arcade game developed by Konami and licensed by Sega/Gremlin. The game was released in 1981 and has become a popular and classic game. There have remakes and sequels to Frogger. The player takes control of Frogger and must get him past the cars and trucks. Jump Continue reading on Gear Diary …

Seeing Greater Things for New FishEyes Smarter Rod and Reel with Underwater Video Camera

Posted on 25 August 2011

I have to admit that many items I review do not receive much thought after I post their story, but after spending a short time with this new FishEyes Rod and Reel With Underwater Video Camera I realized here was an item with much broader usage. Sure, this is a unique product that every father needs to bring along on a fishing trip with the kids to enhance their experience while you do your best Bill Dance or Jimmy Houston impression, but I began seeing other opportunities for FishEyes. While it really only looks in one direction (down) as I lowered the camera into the water I thought to myself this would be a great device… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

Gear Games News: In Case You Had Forgotten WHY You Hate GameStop …

Posted on 25 August 2011

I have made a rather big deal about the release of Deus Ex: Human Revolution this week, and in the few hours I have had to play it so far – it is clear we finally have a true follow-up to one of the greatest video games of all time. As I have gone to an ‘all digital’ gaming world, I had pre-ordered it through Green Man Gaming, and since the game is SteamWorks based I was able to add the game to my Steam account and have it fully pre-loaded when it was released! For those who bought the game as a physical copy at retail or through an online retailer… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

Mac/PC Game Review: Din’s Curse: Demon War (PC/Mac RPG, 2011)

Posted on 25 August 2011

Nearly a year ago I reviewed Din’s Curse, praising it for offering loads of fun and tons of gameplay. I summed up as follows: Soldak has once again created a great RPG that encompasses many familiar things but brings us something new and challenging that lends itself to a fun and fresh gaming experience. The core of the game is wrapped around a dynamic world loaded with quests, and that in itself will be enough to keep you coming back for more. Now they are back with an expansion to Din’s Curse called ‘Demon War’. To put it simply, it takes everything from the original and makes it bigger and… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

VIPRE’s Anti-Virus PC Software: Lightweight, Fast and We Have a Free Subscription to Give Away!

Posted on 25 August 2011

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Sunbelt Software. All opinions are 100% mine. Viruses are a fact of life in our digital age. They have plagued and they continue to plague Windows computers, and we are starting to see them spread to other platforms. It is a fine balancing act to maintain: on the one hand you want to protect your computer from the unscrupulous programmers who want to do harm to you and your computers or, worse yet, grab your personal data. On the other hand, you don’t want to use some anti-virus software that is going to slow your computer to a crawl… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

Random Cool Video: Animated Sheet Music for Miles Davis’ So What

Posted on 25 August 2011

The advances in digital sheet music over the years have been stunning, including sheet music that ‘plays’ like a piano roll as the timer scrolls across the screen. But this is something different about this great piece of ‘live’ sheet music – it literally appears on the page as the music flows, adding a dynamic sense of adventure to the familiar ‘So What’ from Miles Davis Kind of Blue. According to Dan Cohen (not OUR Dan Cohen): I wasn’t going to go looking for the drum notations (sorry Jimmy Cobb), but I did find the sheet music for Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Cannonball Adderly, Bill Evans, Paul Chambers. So… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

While I do like iPods, I still love other MP3 players as well.  One of my favorites is the Sansa Fuze+ after the latest firmware update.  Sandisk also has made many other Sansas, and one of the Linux community’s favorite ones has been the Sansa Clip.  Just when I didn’t think the Clip could get any better, Sandisk brings out the Clip Zip, which adds some nice things to the Clip’s form factor. Music Diary Notes: RIM’s BBM Music Poses the Question: Perhaps Late is NOT Better than Never?

Posted on 25 August 2011

Imagine if back in 2006 someone told you that RIM was offering a music plan for the Blackberry that would allow you to get 50 songs per month, share them with all of your friends who also have a Blackberry, unlimited and on-demand. And that it would have cost $5 a month! You would likely have lamented that you couldn’t also get them on your PC or iPod … but would otherwise been pretty thrilled and signed up immediately! This was the time before the iPhone, before Spotify and Slacker, and when RIM ruled the enterprise phone market. This was before RIM was bleeding market share … well, because of moves like… Continue reading on Gear Diary …
