The Korean automakers have gotten into the hybrid game finally and the first models to market from Kia and Hyundai are on the shared midsize sedan platform of Sonata and Optima. Recently I spent some time with the former sporting what Hyundai has dubbed its Hybrid Blue Drive system. During the time I had the vehicle I was noticing some blogs reporting steering issues and a technical bulletin issued by the manufacturer addressing some torque-steer issues with certain Sonata and Optima sedans. I found this interesting as no sooner than I headed out the driveway I found myself pulling over to the side of the road to see if I had a flat tire or… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

This post brought to you by Sprint. All opinions are 100% mine. With more and more of our personal information being kept on our phones the need for increased mobile data security has never been greater. If you have an Android or Blackberry smartphone on Sprint (or even one of a select number of feature phones), there is a service that just might be worth a look; especially since phone security is only one aspect of what it has to offer. Yes, there is a new Sprint Total Continue reading on Gear Diary …

A few weeks ago it came to light that Spotify was using a special type of tracking cookie. Of course, once caught with their hand in … um, the cookie jar (sorry!), Spotify said they would suspend the use of the Kissmetrics cookie technology. But as Digital Music News notes, it is a bit late for the tens of millions of users worldwide who have used Spotify already! Spotify is already managing this like a crisis. According to research just published by researchers at UC Berkeley, Spotify has been using a cookie that cannot be deleted, still tracks if the user blocks cookies, and even operates in browser stealth mode. In fact, if Continue reading on Gear Diary …

Last night I was watching former Tea Party-backed Republican candidate Christine O’Donnell walk out on the Piers Morgan CNN interview show, and later was reading a series of discussions on an internet game forum in which the two same individuals take opposing views to one another in each thread – and opposing views to themselves from thread to thread, uniting only to trash someone else in a third thread … which required them to compromise their own views from before. The cantankerous political discourse of the last two decades, characterized here as ‘The Politics of No’ can be easily summed up by listening to Groucho’s theme from Horse Feathers! I Continue reading on Gear Diary …

Every Friday when I do my weekend PC downloads games post, there are two main inputs I use: the emails I get from about a dozen sites … and Deals4Downloads. The site does an amazing job of rounding up and presenting bargains … but it just keeps getting better! This week the site has rolled out a few changes that seem cosmetic, but have a major impact on usability: Separate views: the ability to look only at casual or mobile games by themselves is a great thing when GamersGate has 600 deals at more than 50% off! Just click on a tab and your settings will apply to the new Continue reading on Gear Diary …

A recent study showed that 40% of YouTube viewing is music videos, noting: Out of the millions of videos streamed on YouTube’s site every day, music videos are by far the most popular. According to ComScore, which will start publishing data on YouTube’s channel partners tomorrow, 40 percent of YouTube’s audience watches music videos, more than any other category. Vevo, a joint venture among Sony Music Entertainment, Universal Music Group and Abu Dhabi Media, has a channel that accounts for 30 percent of YouTube’s entire monthly viewers and is hands-down the most watched YouTube channel . Warner Music’s channel came in second with 20 percent. So back in May… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

Only a card-carrying fanboy would entitle a post something like this right? Maybe, but read the post, and tell me how many companies would have done what I witnessed a short time ago. I just had to make an emergency stop at my local Apple store. I did something stupid with my iPhone (no I won’t go in to detail), and despite it being out of warranty they immediately fixed it for nothing. They had every right to charge me but they didn’t. Love Apple! That, however, isn’t the reason for this post. This is! While I was waiting… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

There’s almost no words to describe the hysterical segment of “The Daily Show” where John Hodgman explains his view of bookstores to Jon Stewart. It’s a must watch. As much as Hodgman is aiming for humor, he hits a few serious points as well. First, watch the video: 520px;”> The Daily Show Get More: Daily Show Full Episodes,Political Humor & Satire Blog,The Daily Show on Facebook Now, humorous or not, he actually noted a few things that are ridiculous, yet true: 1) Borders actually piloted a… Continue reading on Gear Diary …
