Adium

We have already given away some great stuff as part of our 5 year celebration but we’re just getting started. Here’s the next round in our giveaway plus a first look at the grand prize. Before we go there though just a reminder that we are still running our “Gear Diary at 5 Giveaway: It’s In the Bag” contest and we have three awesome review samples up for grabs. Head over to enter!

Now the new giveaway.

NewImage

Judie just reviewed the Sceptre 24″ HDTV / DVD Combo. Aside from some disappointment with the sound coming from the speakers she was pretty impressed with it. Here’s what she had to say:

The Sceptre 24″ LED HDTV and DVD Combo is available from Target, NewEgg, Sears and Costco
MSRP: $499 – although you can find it for much less (approximately half that) online

What I Like: Brilliant high-definition picture; DVD player is build-in; easily mounts to any four-point Ergotron (or other brand) wall or desk mount; may be used as a computer monitor or photo frame

What Needs Improvement: Sound from the TV is tinny , not very loud, and has no bass; remote control requires separate volume control when adjusting DVD sound; remote uses a non-standard CR2520 coin cell battery; if mounting on a wall, be sure to have a way to hide and support the power brick; you will likely need to invest in an after-market speaker system

We’re giving it away!!! How can you enter to win it? Simple.

Step 1. Leave a comment on that post.

Step 2. Leave a comment on THIS post letting us know your favorite three CURRENT television shows.

Step 3. For extra credit and a second time your name will be throw in the hat: Tell us one post here in Gear Diary that mentions a television program. Name the post and the show.

We’ll pick one winner and that individual will have 24 hours from the time the announcement goes live to let us know they won.

But Wait… There’s More. On September 30th we will celebrate the actual date of Gear Diary going live. To celebrate we will have an awesome grand prize for one winner to take home (or have shipped to their home to be accurate). The grand prize contest IS NOT STARTING but we did want to let you know the first item that will be part of it. Here’s a hint…

Here’s another hint… here’s the review of it.

We’ll be adding more items to the Grand Prize in the next few days. Look for details regarding how to enter soon.

The fine print

The contests will cover the next two weeks leading us to September 30th, the actual anniversary of Gear Diary. This week we will be giving away a ton of review items. Almost all of them have been opened and lightly used for review, but all are in perfect working order without any significant cosmetic blemishes. Most have original packaging and any accompanying paperwork.

Each contest will last no more than two days with some taking far less time than that. To enter there will be some activity, task or challenge connected to each and every one of them. Among other things, we hope that these contests help you get to know the site and all of us even better.

The winners will be announced here on the site (not directly by e-mail), and will have just 24 hours from the time the announcement goes live to email us with their name and shipping address. After 24 hours, we reserve the right to either pick another winner or do a new contest with that item. Translation: if you enter a contest keep checking the site to see if you won.

Since we are going to have so many different items to give away over the next 14 or so days, we won’t be shipping any of them until the beginning of October, so please be patient with us. We promise, if you win one of the contests you will be getting your prize as soon as we can possibly make it happen. (And in advance, apologies, but we will only be shipping within the USA.)

Having a father who was heavily involved in early laser and fiber-optical research, Dan grew up surrounded by technology and gadgets. Dan’s father brought home one of the very first video games when he was young and Dan remembers seeing a “pre-release” touchtone phone. (When he asked his father what the “#” and “*” buttons were his dad said, “Some day, far in the future, we’ll have some use for them.”) Technology seemed to be in Dan’s blood but at some point he took a different path and ended up in the clergy. His passion for technology and gadgets never left him.

I commented on the reivew post and I’m not quite sure what you mean by current. As in a season is currently being broadcast, or would in between seasons but returning shows still qualify? House (returning 10/3), Glee (9/27), & Fringe (9/23) are my picks. For extra credit “Are High-Energy Cartoons Rotting Your
Kids’ Brains?” mentions Caillou and Sponge Bob Squarepants etc.

    I have completed step 1.

    On to Step 2:

Three favorite TV shows? I don’t watch terribly too much TV, as I generally prefer to do other things around the house, but do like some mental bubble gum from time to time.  That or movies.

Well, catering to my science background, my wife and I enjoy The Big Bang Theory.  It’s disturbing that such pedantic talk is understood by us (“Excuse me, miss, I speak Science Geek.”).

I suppose I might include Hoarders, as it works as a tonic for us when we think our house is cluttered with kids toys (NB: we are NOT hoarders, but our two kids love to play near us and with Thomas/Brio trains and oodles of Lego storage boxes and, well, it occasionlly looks like it in the living room/bedrooms). It does help reduce the amount of honeydo lists. :D

Saturday Night Live.  Ok, I’ve been watching this show on and off since, well, let’s just say we had a TV actor for a President.  I probably snuck a few when a certain peanut farmer was President too, but only a couple I think.  I had to really work to get the folks to let me stay up that late. ;)

    Step 3:
Bonus:/Extra Cedit:  Music Diary Songs of Note: Sun Ran Live from Saturday Night Live in 1978 by Mr. Anderson, where he mentions Saturday Night Live.

Current favorite is a good distinction because my favorites change often but:

    1) Person on Interest. It literally just started but I fell in love with it pretty instantly. I love the actors especially.
    2) Covert Affairs because of the actors if not the storytelling.
    3) Ultimate Favorite: Leverage. Everything about this show is pretty much amazing.

    I left a comment under Judie’s Review!

    My current favorite TV shoes:
    1) SUITS (on USA, I’m currently watching the entire season 1 and love it)
    2) Fringe (on FOX, I’m a huge JJ Abram fan)
    3) Modern Family (on ABC, hahaha always good for great laughs)

    Bonus
Dear Networks: We Don’t WANT to Pirate Your Shows, it mentoned Ghost Hunters (I was just talking to a friend about this artickle, because felt it was really sad that major networks like Fox delay their online streaming options via hulu and their own page by weeks, they’re missing out on key audiences)

  • Anonymous

    Faves:
    1. Mad Men
    2. Project Runway
    3. Boardwalk Empire

    Extra Credit:
“So … When WILL It Be Enough? 4 Year Old With Fake Boobs and Butt on ‘Toddlers and Tiaras’” mentions a wee Dolly Parton impersonator on “Toddlers and Tiaras” (obviously) but, since then, I think this may have been topped by the unfortunate tyke who was made to dress up as Julia Roberts’ hooker with a heart of gold in “Pretty Woman” —pre-makeover (not the “classed up” red velvet gown and pearls but the thigh-high boots and cutout midriff tube dress, for the love of God).

  • Rajee

My favorite shows – Modern Family, Doctor Who and The Walking Dead
