The other night we were watching Castle, and in the show he was signing books – the book was then advertised in a commercial right at the end of the episode! That same night I was playing ‘Stand O’Food 3′ and there was a poster in the office for ‘Supermarket Mania 2′. Neither was obvious or over the top – certainly nothing like the previous evening when we saw a bit of General Hospital with a woman making chocolate milk for a young boy, but saying things like ‘wouldn’t you like some HERSHEY’s chocolate milk? I know when I’m sad nothing cheers me up like HERSHEY’s chocolate milk. When I was your age my mom… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

I have no intent to make light of divorce or marriage or anything else related to human relationships – they are tough enough as it is. But recently there have been a couple of reports related to video games and divorce that I found interesting. So let’s dive right in! While just about any hobby involving a significant singular time commitment can cause strain in a marriage – my father and a couple of his friends called themselves ‘quilting widows’, and there are people I work with who go on fishing/hunting/camping weekends, and on and on – it seems that ‘video game addicts’ have gotten a huge amount of attention. Perhaps it is because… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

We have talked about the so-called ‘Tablet Market’ as really being the ‘iPad Market’, with some marginal players scraping for scraps. Some of us have bought or spent considerable time with one or more of the various tablets that have come out over the last year – the Samsung Galaxy Tab, Motorola Xoom, BlackBerry Playbook, HP TouchPad, HTC Flyer, Acer Iconia, and on and on. Yet in all of these cases there have been some serious flaws that have derailed the tablets and ultimately resulted in the failure of the tablets to gain market penetration. Last week the IDC released some tablet market share numbers, and although everyone is selling more units… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

Cords and cables… they seem to be everywhere. and most of the time they are a tangled mess. Sure you can use a Bluetooth headset but they need to be recharged and Bluetooth is less than reliable at times. (I’m being nice.) The Sinch seeks to end the mess of tangle headphone wires that plague modern society. Using a unique design that includes two strong magnets it creates a “pocket” that can hold your earbud cord when wrapped around a device or when used in isolation. Let’s take a look at this rather unusual new accessory.  … Continue reading on Gear Diary …

What a way to go out … one of the classic bebop players, and the first tenor player of note in the genre, Dexter Gordon was also nominated for an Academy Award as an actor for the 1986 movie ‘Round Midnight’ that told a semi-fictitious tale of a jazz musician based on the lives of Lester Young and Bud Powell (and to an extent Gordon himself!). He died a few years later, riding out his deteriorating health on a wave of fan support and a feeling of being beloved by the entire jazz community. Yet for much of his career, Dexter Gordon’s life echoed that of Dale Turner from Round Midnight. Brilliantly talented and… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

We were giving away the BookBook for iPhone 4 is a great way to carry your iPhone 4 AND your wallet at the same time. Here’s what we said about it: I like the BookBook for iPhone 4 a great deal. I love the vintage feel and am happy to use a case that also lets me grab my key cards when I leave the house. I’ve gotten some positive comments on it from a number of people who have seen me using it the past few days. Yes, it is a bit bulky and does limit what you can carry, but it also adds a feeling of luxury and “wow-factor” that I have not Continue reading on Gear Diary …

We were giving away an Element Case Vapor Pro for iPhone 4. The full review may be found here, and some of the high points include: MSRP: $149.99 What I Like: Precision crafted with highest quality materials; fits the iPhone 4 perfectly and protects all corners, sides and back; does not hamper the antenna’s reception; the Limited Edition kit includes enough extra goodies to dampen the sting of the price What Needs Improvement: I would like to see other colors offered, but that is a personal nit-pick on an otherwise superb case The case goes to… Rodney St. John who wrote: Awesome! I’d love one of these cases. I tweeted about Dan’s awesome Continue reading on Gear Diary …

Image courtesy of Nexus404 If you are one of the unlucky shoppers that had a cancelled order during Touchpad firesale through OnSale (Amazon), then you might be in luck. While doing the usual Touchpad search before bed I came across a link that was posted on the chat over on SlashNet. The link led me to page that required I put in my original order number and email. From there I received a link in my inbox to a generic looking OnSale order form. This process took some serious time and nail biting, probably due to the fact that the server was getting pounded from all those who attempted to originally purchase the… Continue reading on Gear Diary …
