It’s a loud, loud world out there. In a world where they can spend a million smackers to build a single mile of acoustic wall along highways, you know noise is a problem in the modern world. You got your jackhammers, your freeways, your trains, cars, buses, lo-riding jerk weeds blasting music out of their four-wheel boom boxes . . . it’s loud. Loud, I tell you! And you! Yeah, you! Get off my lawn! Ahem. Anyway, Crescendo Hearing Protection wants to help. They’ve got a full line of hearing protection items that cover a whole bunch of needs–musicians, industrial workers, and whatever else you can think of. So if the blasting-sound nature of modern… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

Last year at this time Sony unveiled a great fall sale – there were things for PS3 gamers, PSP gamers, and PSP Minis that worked on both systems. This year is pretty much the same … except without ANYTHING for PSP gamers. But as I have been told many times, I am just imagining that Sony treats their loyal PSP users like second class citizens. Anyway, here is the list from the Playstation Blog: Limbo (Sale price: $10.49; PS Plus price: $7.34; Regular price: $14.99) Might & Magic Clash Of Heroes (Sale price: $10.49; PS Plus price: $7.34; Regular price: $14.99) Outland (Sale price: $6.99; PS Plus price: $4.89; Regular Continue reading on Gear Diary …

The HD HERO line of cameras are offered in packages tailored for the activity they will be used for such as Motorsports, Surf and Helmet, and the quality from this little camera is simply amazing.… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

Although I’m the official Old Fart of the Gear Diary team, even I am not old enough to remember when phones looked like the picture above. Yeah, sure, I’m old enough to have grown up when houses had one phone and it was frequently attached to the kitchen wall; when “Please get the phone!” was a common cry, because there wasn’t a phone in every room (or every pocket) and phone answering machines (and software) hadn’t been invented yet. Yes, I’m oooooooold. But I ain’t that old, kids. But still, I like this kind of retro stuff. Would I use it? I dunno, honestly, but I do like that it’s out there. I’m not much… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

photo courtesy of The New York Times via Green Options When I was a kid, if I didn’t eat enough I was told that should think about all of the “starving children around the world” and clean my plate. Granted, my feelings at the time were along the lines of how happy I would be to box up my leftovers and ship them off, but my parents did have a point. Just because we live in a country where food is more readily available than in other parts of the world does not give us license to waste it; it’s a sad fact that even in the United States we have plenty of… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

Unlike so many other ‘special sales’ events we seem to see every other week, Thanksgiving week is the legitimate start of the holiday shopping rush. We know that every retail store is opening way-too-early (Walmart is opening so early on Friday that it will still be Thursday!) to lose money on a few things in the hopes of making money on others. We are already seeing sales on games through the iTunes App Store as well. Now US Cellular has joined the sales push, with a special sale on smartphones – and also a great new $39.99 plan! Here are the details: Reward Yourself and Everyone on Your List with a Continue reading on Gear Diary …

“Robot Santa will show you the real meaning of ‘Black Friday’. Ho ho ho ho!” Look, don’t blame me, I’m only here to help! Yes, Black Friday is right around the corner. I don’t know about you, but being both Jewish and the child of a messy divorce, I’m not a big fan of “the holiday season” (to me it’s more a holiday of “which parent am I going to disappoint this year?”, rather than “peace on earth, goodwill towards everyone”, ya know?). I’m more like the folks in “Futurama”, dreading the coming of the Robot Santa, with his rocket launchers and exploding Christmas balls and whatnot. But it comes barreling down… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

Welcome back to the GearGames weekly video game release feature here at Gear Diary! The contrast between the hundred plus releases last week and the couple of dozen this week shows that we are now in the slide into the holidays and the big releases are done. Well, almost – we have The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword for the Wii this week, which had been listed for last week on some sites. Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary, Assassin’s Creed Revelations, Saint’s Row: The Third, and Need for Speed: The Run! And those are just the ‘blockbusters’! There are a few other big games, such as Serious Sam 3: BFE, which is a prequel to the classic pure-fun shooter series. I loved the first two, but felt they stumbled with Serious Sam 2 by trying to be …well, too serious. There are other interesting releases like The King of Fighters XIII, as well as WWE ’12, as well as some others. Every platform has something worth checking this week – read on to find out!… Continue reading on Gear Diary …
