My friend Peter K is a speaker, author, health and success coach, nutritionist and physical therapist. (His website Peter K Fitness tells his story, introduces his method and explains how his approach has helped countless people lead a healthier lifestyle. Some impressive testimonials are there too!) Peter is Elana’s health coach and played a huge role in her becoming as fit as she now is. (It also turns out that I had the privilege of officiating at his wedding more than a decade ago. A connection we did not make until Elana met him for her first training session.) Peter is an entrepreneur at heart. He recently read the Steve Jobs biography and, to use his own words, the “book really resonated” with him. He jotted down a few thoughts while reading it and shared them with me. I, in turn, asked if I could share them with all of you. And so, with no further ado I present to you “Peter K’s What Steve Jobs taught me about being successful in business”.… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

I like Beyza Cases. They’re maybe not as fancy as, say, Vaja Cases, but they’re good quality, they’re leather, and they look durn nice. I’ve had a couple of Beyza cases for my iPhones over the years, and I feel perfectly comfortable recommending them. They have iPhone, iPad, and MacBook Air cases, as well as plenty of options to cover your Samsung, BlackBerry, or Motorola gadget. They’re worth checking out in general. Starting today (Black Friday! Hide in your basement and use the internet; people are getting pepper-sprayed at Wal-Mart!), Beyza is offering 15% off on “selected models” until the end of the year. And honestly, since I find their regular prices pretty darn reasonable, I… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

When the iPhone first came out, one of the big complaints was dealing with the virtual keyboard and the word recognition software. Now me, it’s always worked pretty well, but as I have no sensation in two of my fingers (nerve damage, baby!), I’ve been having the experience of a virtual keyboard (in two fingers, at least) for a long time. For the rest of planet Earth, it’s not a happy experience. One possible solution is SwiftKey, an app that helps you type more and better on your teeny, tiny touch screen keyboard. I can’t vouch for its veracity myself, but there are definitely lots of people who like it. And if you’ve been waiting to… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

We’re super excited to see what new device ioSafe will be unveiling this year at CES. We’ve tried to get them to give us the scoop, but they are being even more tight-lipped than ever. They have, however, let us know that the new device we will be seeing has something to do with these images. What does it have to do with the newest ioSafe product? Your guess is as good as ours. Literally!! Yes, ioSafe wants your guess on what device they will use when they demo the new product for us at CES in just over a month and a half. As if… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

Even though I rarely shop, I am an admitted Black Friday participant. I usually have a playoff football game that Friday night but I almost always wake up early in the morning and head out. Why not hit a store or two, find a possible deal and watch people be crazy? The entertainment value alone is worth the loss of sleep. An area often overlooked on these big shopping days are deals in the iTunes App Store. Here’s a good one. One of my favorite location based applications, Localscope will be on sale for half price from Black Friday until Cyber Monday. For more information on the app, read my initial review here Continue reading on Gear Diary …

When you make the claim that your game is “A « BALLSY » GAME DESIGNED FOR PLAYERS HARD TO PLEASE”, I expect to see it backed up with gameplay to prove it! And based on the short time I have spent playing Genesia: The 7 gems of NEORT on the iPad, this game lives up to its billing! Here is the description: IN A NUTSHELL • A Strategy and Management turn based game in a living world. • Playable, up to three players on the same iPad or against the artificial intelligence. • A procedural universe: two rounds never look alike, for hundreds of hours of gaming. • A deepness and attention to Continue reading on Gear Diary …

It has been a long time coming – but now we get news that the source code for the Doom 3 game engine (the content is still EULA protected) has been released. There were long legal holdups, and eventually John Carmack himself jumped in and made some code modifications to clear things up, according to this tweet: doom 3 source is packaged and tested, we are waiting on final lawyer clearance for release. You can grab the entire source tree from GitHub, with build projects for Win32, Linux and Mac OS X. If you obtain the game from Steam or another source, you can use the game files to fully recompile the full… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

You are wandering around the mall on Friday, heading from the Gap to FYE to Macy’s to Hickory Farms to Best Buy, not necessarily thinking about anything but getting as many great deals to justify braving the crowds as possible. But thanks to FootPath Technology, your cell phone will be pinging in with its location, and the mall will be able to mine data about traffic patterns, which stores got the most visitors, correlations between stores and more! Sound a bit invasive? Well, if you are in one of the malls testing this out, your only option is to turn off your cell phone! According to an article in the Chicago Tribune Continue reading on Gear Diary …

Okay, now I have to admit I’m a little PO’d. A few weeks ago, a new game was released for iOS called Machinarium. I wouldn’t call myself a huge steampunk fan, but I am definitely enamored of steampunk-like stuff, and steampunky games. A lot of my enjoyment of Myst and Riven is the steampunk feel of the gadgetry, for example. (I wish they would port Bio Shock to iOS, but I digress.) So when this game was released, I was eager to try it. Except, you know, you can only play it on the iPad 2 — not on the iPad 1! But hey, I figured if I just waited a bit, they would port it… Continue reading on Gear Diary …
