For those of you putting off the eReader craze due to price, not sure you should have any reservations after this Friday. Earlier this week it was announced that Best Buy will be offering the Barnes & Noble Nook Wi-fi for $99 on Black Friday. Well Amazon has fought back and announced that they will be offering the Kindle 2 for $89 on amazon.com, this was announced on their Twitter page and over at ireaderreview.com; it is the first time ever Amazon has offered a Black Friday deal on any Kindle version.

This year, Gear Diary has hit several milestones; I wanted to do something super-special to mark the event and thank the writers, other than just sending items from their Amazon Wish Lists which is what I have done in the past. After wracking my brain, I wrote to Scott Jordan, a long time friend and owner of SCOTTEVEST; I asked him what kind of price break he could give me if I ordered jackets in bulk, and his answer was surprisingly do-able. Why go with SeV? The answer for me was simple: they are extremely well made, I love their products, these items hold up over time, I think their products look great, I wanted to support a business that I believe in, and I could get item ordered personalized with the Gear Diary logo! :lol: Scott set me up with his custom embroidery guy (Rick from S&R Monogramming), and together they made sure that the Gear Diary writers were perfectly outfitted for the winter weather. After everyone had received their packages, I asked them to send me a picture of them wearing their jackets, along with a few sentences telling what they like -- or don't like -- about SeV products in general. With my schedule I find myself with tons of down time throughout any given day. Being in Dr's waiting rooms, bus rides in the spring during baseball season, or just sitting on a bench while my wife spends hours in the mall emptying our bank account...I always turn to one thing, my BlackBerry. OK, so the name alone makes me think of that mind numbing "Jitterbug" jingle (don't even try to deny that you just blurted out that little tune!). But what we have is Twitterlerts for BlackBerry smart phones, and the app is for Berries running OS 4.3 or higher. So fact of the matter is, I will never be confused with a CPA or give classes on money management. I have yet to look at my check book register since the lady at the bank wrote the beginning balance...that was almost 11 years ago when I was 18! Luckily I have a job that keeps a nice cushion in my bank account and I never really worry about balancing my account...hope my wife doesn't read this :o) Having said that I have always wanted to carry my check book with me to keep tabs, I just hate the whole pencil and paper gig. The foxL is a portable speaker, about the size of two chocolate bars but considerably heftier. It comes in two versions - the plain old foxL, and the foxLmb with bluetooth connectivity.

I've had the foxLmb for a while now, and I was wondering whether it was time for an upgrade. I went to the Bose store ready to purchase a battery powered SoundDock but then I sampled it and decided to stick with the foxL. The SoundDock doesn't sound bad; it's just that the foxL manages to hold its own against the SoundDock in terms of audio quality. And now that the iPhone and iPod Touch can stream music wirelessly over bluetooth, the foxlmb has gained a new lease on life.

Ok; so I know being with a CDMA carrier such as Sprint I have handicapped my insatiable need for new equipment, that is unless I am a Palm fanboy. But come on, enough is enough already...right? The guys over at Crackberry.com have posted this picture of two T-Mobile branded BlackBerry 8520's(aka Gemini), yes the one with the pretty optical trackball...wait is it really a "trackball" if there is no ball? I guess that is a discussion in and of itself!  They have also posted a review of the BlackBerry 8520 here. You know that itch you get when you buy a new digital camera, the type of itch that makes you capture everything from kids to office supplies, at least I hope other people do that too :o)  My wife is one of the smartest people I know, but I couldn't count the times when I get a scream from the computer room, with her trying to manage all of our digital photos or asking me how to find certain pictures...that's where Picsmatch facial recognition program comes to the rescue! My friend Mark contacted me via GTalk video chat three days ago to test out his new Acer Aspire One that he purchased for $349 at Costco. I was so impressed that he was able to connect and video chat without difficulty on a Netbook that cost so little that I immediately ordered one for myself on Amazon. Last night I put Windows 7 Release Candidate on the machine by creating a bootable USB drive (I used a 16GB drive - instructions here - that I bought for $35 from Staples). I always check Software Update when ever I am on the OSX side of my computers, and while the check on the MacBook detected nothing earlier this morning, this afternoon on the Wind I was greeted with this interesting sight.

Leopard Update 10.5.7 has been released, and it is available for your general OSX goodness.

Update: The 10.5.7 Update installs just fine on the Wind.  The keyboard and trackpad work even after the install, unlike the 10.5.6 update.  However, video is reduced to 800x600 resolution; and installing the first of 3 video KEXT files kills the Wind’s display. The Wind reboots and gets stuck on the gray Apple logo screen, with the mouse arrow active. Letting the Wind sit and think turns the arrow into the spinning beach ball, where it sat for about 45 minutes before I killed power to the Wind.  Looks like I have to either rebuild the OSX partition and/or the whole 3x boot box (if the individual OSX rebuild fails to return the PC to its full triple boot functionality).

I tend to think of myself as an "on the go" type of guy with a sedentary lifestyle...not sure if that makes any sense to you but it does to me.  I have some travel for work, coach high school baseball, volunteer with the local Board of Education, and have a 15-month old that we are always taking to the zoo.  But as you can see from those activities a lot of my time is spent sitting around....enter Shape Service's Mobiola xPlayer for the Blackberry Curve 83XX series.
